Remember that night? - Sara Kays

"Hey," I whisper, trying to wake him up

"Hey," I whisper, trying to wake him up. He doesn't so much as change his breathing- clearly deep in slumber.

It feels terrible to wake him up but it'd be worse if I just left with no word, just to come back with food.

I lean in closer to the bed, my hand reaching out to brush the hair away from his forehead and that's when he decides to stir and I jerk back.

I did not just do that without even second thinking it.

I'll pretend I didn't.

His eyes flutter open and he looks at me like he didn't expect me to be here. "Why'd you listen?"

Because seeing you like that panicked me.

Because I was worried about you.

Because I don't want to leave you. Ever.

"Shut up," I say softly, my voice lacking any bite. I reach over again- this time for a valid reason. To check his temperature.

My fingers brush his forehead. It's better than before. But still hot. He watches me while I do this with half-lidded eyes and I try not to focus on that.

I clear my throat pulling away as I begin to get up. "I'm going to get you something to eat."

He begins to shake his head, denying. "You don't have to get me anything, Lala."

"I want to," I say without hesitation, and it's only when I exited the room I fully comprehend what I just said.

"Noah." I say sternly. "I swear, if you don't open your mouth right now-"

"I'm not fucking hungry." He groans.

And I thought I was a baby when I was sick.

When I came back with a sandwich and a bottle of water, Noah looked at it like it was something that did him wrong and insisted he wasn't hungry, he just needed rest.

Now I have to force feed him for his own good. And he still acts like this.

"Just a small bite," I try to convince, waving the sandwich a little.

He sighs, but takes it and bites into it like he doesn't want to.

I cross my arms, "This is how you're gonna act now?"

"No," He mutters. "Sorry,"

I smile a little and say, "Take another bite."
