Axel's POV:
"Axel, let's go, you're going to be late and your dad can't wait forever." My father yelled.
I groaned, rolling onto my back. I stretched before I got out of bed, grabbing clothes on my way to the bathroom. I opened the medicine cabinet bypassing my pills to grab my tooth paste and tooth brush. I hopped in the shower because I didn't have one yesterday.
I should probably tell you who I am, my names Axel Johnson (obviously) I'm 5'9" weigh 175 pounds and it's all muscle. I have black hair and blue eyes. I'm the star quarterback and every girl wants me and every guy wants to be me. Too bad only my best friends know everything about me.
The Bradley twins, Grant and Madison, both have grey eyes, brown hair, same jaw line, and same signature smirk. Grant towered over me at 6'2" while Madison stood at 5'11". Aside from all our parents and my coach knowing, Grant and Madison are the only ones who know I'm on meds and that I'm forced to associate with my surrogate mother Abigail.
I dried off before slipping on a plain blue t, my blue jeans, black socks, and my Jordan's. Grabbing Grant's Boston Bruins sweatshirt (they are our favorite hockey team even though we live in Utah) and slipped it over my head. I picked my bag up off the floor before swiping a nutri-grain bar from the top of my mini fridge and then pulling out an energy drink. I started down the stairs to meet up with my dad for a ride. I had barely got three sips in before the can was yanked from my hands. I groaned turning around to face my father.
"Axel, you know we don't allow these in this house." He said.
"So I'll finish it outside." I smirked.
"Nice try. We've never allowed you to drink these."
"But, father, I'm 18 now."
"Energy drinks and caffeine are bad for you especially and effect your meds."
"DAD!" I yelled running down the rest of the stairs. He came around the corner looking between me and my father.
"Yeah?"
"Tell him tha-" I started but was cut off.
"He's drinking energy drinks again." My father spoke.
"Axel.... Would you just listen to me and daddy for once?" Dad asked.
"Father...." I said.
"You know he hates that Ax."
"I don't care I'm not a fucking baby."
"Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?" My dad said.
"SHES NOT MY MOTHER!" I screamed getting pissed off.
"Axel, sweetie, did you take your meds this morning?" My father asked.
"For fuck sake, I'm not a little kid, I take them when I'm supposed to get off my back about it. I'll be in the car." I said storming off.
I heard my dad say "Guess if Grant brings him home for the dinner early we'll know he's lying. It's okay baby" I could hear my father starting to cry. It made me feel bad but I was too pissed to do anything. I slammed the front door before jumping in my dad's truck and slamming that door too. I dropped my bag between my feet and slouched down to wait. A few minuets later my dad came out shaking his head. He climbed in and started the car. Backing out and heading to my school.
"You know, kid, we just want what's best for you. You're quickly becoming reckless. You act angry all the time. Normally when you miss a day of meds you don't get aggravated so easily." He said glancing at me.
I shrugged. "Just let it go."
"Fine, but you know every time you've attempted practice off your meds Grants had to bring you home early."
"Oh my god. Just leave it alone. I'm on my meds. I have two parents and don't need or want Abigail in my life. I just want to go to school and for you and father to leave me the hell alone."
With that it was silent until we pulled up to the school.
"See you around four." He said as I got out and shut the door.
"I have practice."
"I know" he smirked and drove off.
I rolled my eyes before pushing my way through the crowd. Once inside I made my way down the hallway towards my locker. I quickly are my nutri-grain bar before opening my locker and opening the monster I had in there. I got abound half-way through the can when I felt arms snake around my waist from behind. I knew it was Grant so I leaned into him. Madison walked into my view glaring at me. I smirked and went to take another sip when Grant pulled the can from my hands chugging the rest.
"Grant, come on. That's the second time today someone took my monster." I whined, turning in his arms so we were standing chest to chest.
He smirked. "Maybe because you aren't supposed to have it."
"Don't either of you fucking start right now, I'm 18 and can make my own decisions." I pretty much yelled.
"Woah, babe, did you take your meds this morning?" Grant asked.
I pushed away from him taking a step back. "IM NOT YOUR BABE! And for the final fucking time, yes I took them." I yelled.
Everyone in the hall turned to look at us.
"You never lie to us. Especially not to me." Grant said.
"I'm not lying."
"Whatever, so should I have my keys ready to leave practice early?" He said.
"SCREW YOU!" I said turning and walking away.
"Oh, I plan to." He said chuckling.
I froze. I knew he was gay, hell everyone did, and he said this stuff to me all the time but when I'm already irritated as hell he shouldn't have. I turned around noticing the smirk on his face. I stepped forward and threw a punch hitting him with a crack sounding out when my fist hit his jaw. I acted like it didn't hurt but I'm pretty sure it was my hand that cracked and not his jaw. I stormed off in the opposite direction heading to class. I heard Grant chuckle before Maddi yelled my name out, but I kept walking.
Later that day :
I walked out of the principals office for the 6th and final time today. Yes, I was kicked out of every class on the first day back for being "uncooperative, rude, and obnoxious". I entered the locker room being the only one there. I started slamming my stuff around and slamming my locker open and shut. I was putting on my shoulder lads when coach walked in.
"You okay, kid?"
"Fine, Coach"
"Alright. Let me know if you need anything. On the field in 10."
"Yes, Coach" I finished putting on my pads and had just finished tying my cleats when everyone else walked in the room.
"On the field in 7!" I said before storming out and running down to the field.
Twenty minuets into practice I could already tell coach was fed up with me. Anyone so much as bumped me or looked at me sideways and I ripped them a new one. Coach had sent Grant back to the school for some reason so while he was gone his back up guard wasn't doing shit to protect my blind side. I was hit by a freshman that I knew he could have prevented from coming through. I was screaming at him when I was suddenly thrown over a shoulder and heading to the parking lot.
"Come back tomorrow, when you've calmed down kid." Coach yelled.
It was then I realized Grant, coach, and my parents knew I've been skipping my pills. I was flipped so I was sitting on the hood of his jeep. I was almost his height but I was staring well glaring at his chest. I felt him tugging my helmet off so I closed my eyes and let him take off my practice jersey and shoulder pads next.
"You want to change into shorts and sneakers." I nodded. I stripped to my boxers and socks right in the parking lot before slipping on a pair of his shorts and my sneakers.
"You texted my parents?" I asked.
"I had to. They want me to bring you home. We can start the dinner early."
"I-I'm sorry I lied. And- and- and I just get so angry." I said shaking.
Grant started hugging me and whispering things he knew would calm me down. Things like "I'm right here." "I'm never leaving you." "No matter how much you hit us or push us away we won't leave you." Eventually I was able to get in the car and we headed home.
"How long have you been off them? It stays between us."
"A week."
"Thought so"
I shrugged hopping out of the car when he pulled to a stop in the drive way. I walked up the front steps and across the porch, I opened the front door and groaned.
"What is she doing her?"
"Stop. Treat Abigail with respect." My dad said.
"Sorry. It's been a rough day. How are you Abby?"
"I'm good Axel." She said smiling at me.
Next thing I know I'm wrapped in a hug from my dad's being sandwiched in.
"Please don't lie to us next time. We know when you don't take it." My father said.
"I know. Can we discuss what the real reason we are having a "family meal" is?" I asked, sitting down. Everyone followed suit. Grant sitting next to me on my left, my parents across from me, Maddi to my right next to Abby and the Bradley's on the other side of their son.
"Well there's two reasons. First, when you were 7 we switched doctors to the twins mom because you were all so close and she's the best pediatrics and heart doctor in town." My dad said.
"Heart doctor? Why would I need a heart doctor?" I asked.
"Well you remember when you were younger and would cry because your heart hurt?" My father asked.
"Yeah you guys said it was just asthma."
"Well we didn't tell you the whole truth you had...have a severe heart murmur. It's why we don't let you drink caffeine even though you really want to. It messes with your heart and the meds." My dad said.
I was shocked but I've been living with it unknowingly for 18 years so it wasnt a huge deal. "And the second thing?"
"Uhm,.. When you were two we all decided that we needed to arrange something. We arranged a marriage to happen between you and Grant." Abby said.
I flinched away from Grant once it registered and stood up my chair slamming into the wall behind me. "I'm not gay!" I said.
"You know, you say that but every morning when I wrap my arms around your waist from behind you, you lean into me." Grant said.
I whipped my head to face him. "Funny, I don't remember asking for your input."
"Funny, you didn't deny it!" He smirked.
"FUCK YOU!" I screamed, taking off to the door I barely got off the porch steps when I was tackled to the lawn. Grant sat so he was on my ass and holding my hips down.
"Just admit the truth. We've been in a relationship since we were 12 and started hugging and holding hands." Grant said as I struggled trying to get away.
"We haven't held hands since freshman year!" I yelled.
"Bullshit! Every time we watch a movie or we are alone in the car and you're not pissed you hold my hand and play with my fingers. Stop fucking lying."
"Grant! I-I-I c-can't b-breath." I said, gasping for air.
He quickly got off my hips and flipped me over sitting me up my back on his chest. While his mom came running over, I passed out before she got there, everything going black.
