"He really wants this house." I stated
My mother's soft voice came from the speaker. "You can tell?"
"I can tell." I reassured
"Well I mean... I'll talk money with him and see if we can move him in."
I pinched my cellphone between my ear and shoulder as I shoved another piece of bread into the toaster.
"Cool. How was your appointment?"
"Great. Just a checkup. Everything's looking good."
"That's good." I replied, patiently waiting for my toast.
"What are you doing for the rest of the day?" She asked
"Uhh. I'll probably stop into the café and work a few hours."
"Okay."
"Ok."
I pulled my phone from my ear and ended the call. Just as I slipped my phone back into my pocket the toast popped up, causing me to jump back. A toaster? Really? I rested my hand over my heart and took a deep breath. After recovering I slathered my toast with butter and topped it off with cinnamon sugar. I took my plate and sat down, pulling my phone out and opening Twitter. Nothing new. Shocker.
*time skip through work*
"I'm home!" I called out into the silent house.
"Mom?" I made my way into the kitchen when I saw a note on the counter.
Out with the girls for a bit. Be back around 10.
<3 ya.I nodded to myself and trudged up the stairs. My hair was pulled back into a high pony and I still wore my uniform from work. I peeled the grimy work clothes off of my skin and threw on an oversized pajama shirt. My body yearned for the comfort of my bed, but I knew my brain would stay awake for hours. Instead, I slid my window open and eagerly pulled off the screen cover. The cool night breeze blew tiny wisps of my hair around my face. I tucked a flyaway behind my ear and pulled myself through my window and onto the roof.
Once I was adjusted and laying silently on the rigid shingles, I gazed up at the stars. Each one looked like a bright pin-prick in a sea of deep blue. The sight was breathtaking. I scanned the dark sky thinking about what it would be like to live in a bigger city, where things like this didn't exist. Where stars weren't visible. I shook my head at the the thought. I always wanted to leave this small little town and go somewhere big, and I still do. But there were things like this that I would definitely miss.
After about an hour of peaceful stargazing, I saw my moms car turn the corner and make its way down the street. Shit. I scrambled back up the roof and dived into my room. My screen easily clicked into place and I slammed my window shut. I took a deep breath and collapsed onto my bed pulling the comforter over my body. My mom was trying to be stealthy by coming up the stairs quietly, but our house was slightly old. Every other step creaked under her weight. I giggled as she mustered cuss words under her breath and stepped into her room. After a few minutes of staring into the darkness that surrounded me, I fell asleep.
*-lol two-day time skip.-*
"So you know how I had lunch with Mark yesterday?" My mom said through the phone.
"Yep." I replied, exaggerating the 'p'.
"Well he fits all my criteria, so he signed the lease and he's moving in tomorrow."
My mouth dropped in shock. "Tomorrow? He already signed- wow that moved quickly!"
"Tell me about it."
