Horror image ahead. Proceed with caution or lower the brightness to not be startled (it startled ME moments ago, lmao).

The days spent at home after the hospital were slow but not bad. Lazing around and simply enjoying everything was nice, and the promised citizenship was making them excited—waiting for when they'd finally grab their new ID, the card that officially announces them as free.
The joy of it is overtaking, and yet...
Each night they go to sleep, nightmares haunt them worse than ever before. Not even in the hospital were they that bad.
The underlying fear that he (the monster, the man who tried killing them) would come back for them, somehow break through the door and drag them out.
It was unreasonable. They knew he wouldn't be able to break in here—they remember you saying, way back when they first met you, that this house was reinforced with safety measures to make it very hard to break into. You explained later that people try to break into 'rich' houses to see if they can get their hands on something valuable, and therefore your parents had to take some drastic steps to ensure everyone would be safe.
That made them feel quite secure and safe, and yet, their fear was disagreeing with the facts.
They are fine come morning, but during the night, images of the monster flash behind their eyelids, lurking inside their mind awaiting to pounce. Each dark corner seems to house his figure—eyes, bloodied and caved in, watches them from afar.
It was multiple times that they woke up confused, grabbing at you to tell you to run, to hide, the monster is here. Those memories are blurry when they wake up, but they still remember you calming them down each and every time it happened.
It was almost like sleepwalking, but without the walking part (yet). They are upright, speaking and easily grabbing at you, eyes wandering aimlessly around the room, but they aren't actually awake.
It is easy to get them back to sleep, you had told them. Though, they still wake up a few more times before the sun rises.
It has also become hard to fall asleep, but not for the reasons as before.
Before, they found it hard (especially Moon) to sleep because of the fear of vulnerability.
Now, it is because their mind wouldn't stop replaying what had gone down in that monster's house. Specifically when they had smashed his face in.
The gory image wouldn't leave no matter what, and it was increasingly hard to relax and close their eyes when all they could see was the monster's bloodied face staring down on them.
The disturbance in their sleep has them waking up not fully rested, struggling to hold off the yawns throughout the day.
They have also never slept in their room since they got here. The nightmarish images stop them from being separate from you, especially during the night.
The childish fear has led them, unsurprisingly, to regress quite a lot. Being in the mindset of a literal toddler, of course, made things even worse. It also put a wrench in their efforts to unmerge, their mind unable to focus after dawn on anything but the growing shadows that close around them.
You had found a blue nightlight in the closet and that promised help, not being too bright and not too dim—perfectly in between (for a Human's eyes, at least). They might be able to see in the dark, but their vision needed at least a small source of light to work properly. They definitely couldn't see when it was pitch black due to the lack of a source.
