To Make These Halls Anew

Eclipse pushes a cart full of items they chose for the house, ranging from throw pillow cases for the couches and little pot plants that could be hung around the windows, to a bathroom rug and a cool set of plates for the kitchen.

They didn't feel guilty about choosing so many items when they weren't necessarily for them. You kept encouraging them all the while to keep choosing because, as you put it, "The house needs some serious renovation!"

You also ended up liking a chair and taking its serial number to get it at the register. Despite your hard-set preferences, you still found one that matched your wants.

They also really liked exploring the built-in kitchens, commenting on each design and what it reminded them of. It was pretty fun, they'd say. It got their mind off of certain awful memories, too.

"What about your room?" You suddenly ask.

"Hmm?" They looked up from where they were trying to read some very cursive words.

"You chose decorations for almost the whole house... what about your room? You can't leave it barren."

Eclipse could feel some tension rising unannounced in their body, making their shoulders tighten closer to their neck. "Uh..."

You look at them with an expression they can't depict, your eyes seeming to see right through them easily, "It's okay if you're getting overwhelmed, dear—we can get other stuff later or through the internet. But, for now, please at least choose some bedding for your new bed, yeah?"

They seriously can't believe they're getting overwhelmed because of this, but truth has it, they have reached their point where they can't accept any more money-related things from you for today. Getting them a room was huge enough in their books! They'd be pushing it if they tried anything more.

"Okay," they nod in agreement, feeling that small voice that called them greedy quieten and settle and stop whispering awful things about them simply liking you for your money—which isn't true! They swear! Why can't the voice shut up?!—

Eclipse pushes the cart towards where they remember seeing some bedding a while ago. You help by dragging said cart from the front to ease the load.

A few aisles down comes the section that's all sheets and pillows from the tiled floors to the shiny ceiling. The lights here were a bit more on the golden side, but still bright and quite stinging to their eyes.

They let go of the cart to whirl around a little, searching for something that would catch their eyes quickly, as they didn't want to linger. Their room furniture was white, and the curtains were translucent with a fade-in blue, so choosing bedding shouldn't be too difficult.

Maybe something blue to match their prized cloudy blanket? Hmm...

It takes them a bit more time than anticipated, but they do land their eyes on a checkered white with baby blue bedding. They walked towards it and inspected its general softness—it seemed cool and smooth, great for hot weather. Their prized blanket was soft and warm, so they believed that mixture to be great.

Eclipse looks back at you as if asking for a second opinion.

"That looks good," you say, reading some detail on the attached info sheet, "Do you like it?"

This exact moment reminds them of Mrs. Lawrence, of the times she takes them shopping with her. She would ask if they liked something, exactly like how you do sometimes, but it was different. The way you ask them, the way you shop with them, was different from when they do with her.
