Might not be forever, but if it's forever, it's even better. And I don't know what I'm cryin' for. I don't think I could love you more. It might not be long, but baby, I'll love you 'til the day that I die.

CASEY SHOVED THE LAST of her supplies into her bag as her mind raced with the checklist she'd gone through twelve times already. After the events at the valley, Arkadia had been subjected to a massive fire—not thanks to a man named Ilian—and intentionally made it so it was no longer a viable option to survive the storm. The only thing left was the slim hope that Luna's Nightblood would save them all.
⠀⠀⠀There wasn't anything left to do in Arkadia and Murphy was miles off the coast. A team was setting off to take hydrazine to Raven anyhow, and Casey convinced Clarke to let herself and her mother join the mission to Becca's Island, even with Roan joining them. It was a risky affair, but if things went downhill fast, neither of the women could stand the chance of being separated from their family once again. That didn't make it hurt any less that she was leaving her friends behind.
⠀⠀⠀There was a shuffle outside of her door as Jasper leaned against the frame with a lopsided grin. Her eyes raked over his thin frame, shaved head and vacant eyes sparking just slightly for her. Casey's heart clenched as she missed the goofy naïve boy from their first days on the ground. But, even so, she was happy he was there at all.
