THE JOURNEY BACK TO Arkadia was an arduous task of keeping her mouth shut. Rian was torn between the need to know what happened to her soon and Marcus Kane's prying eyes. Casey continued to tell her they would talk later, although she feared the conversation would always be later. However, with Marcus nearby, she didn't want him anywhere near her family drama, so she was inclined to give Casey her space.
⠀⠀⠀Rian and Kane had grown up together on the Ark. They were close friends, always sharing secrets and fooling around on the ship. But then, they were no longer children, and Marcus found his passion for politics. While Rian had also fallen into a more political route, enlisting in the Guard, Marcus had become corrupted by the policies of their strict government. He stood for things that Rian couldn't understand. He no longer had a bleeding heart for their people, but sentenced them to death. Their relationship had long been soured when Casey was arrested, and when she went to him, begging as an old friend to save her daughter, he denied. Casey would endure her sentencing and die just like everyone else.
