INDRA LEFT THE CAVE long before daybreak, leaving Rian alone, bound, and wallowing in self pity with only a slim hope that her people would come back for her. Hours passed, and Rian knew it was unlikely. Starving to death seemed like a fitting punishment for what she had done to her daughter and old friend.
⠀⠀⠀Her stomach ruptured into a growl. The last time she had been this hungry was in the mountains after the children had been taken. They had lost so much, no one wanted to risk going back out into the snow just for another massacre to take place.
⠀⠀⠀Footsteps neared and for a moment Rian thought it was her imagination until Nathan Miller and Harper McIntyre entered the cave. Then Bryan, Jacapo Sinclair, and Marcus Kane. He wasn't dead. Her body deflated forward, relieved that her actions hadn't brought along his death. She wasn't sure if she could ever forgive herself. His gaze averted from hers when she looked back up, but now she was growing anxious to see her daughter.
⠀⠀⠀Bellamy and Octavia Blake entered from Kane. The only person able to meet her gaze was Octavia. Her jaw was stiff, her gaze sharp, and a chill ran down Rian's spine as Octavia's fingers twitched at her sides. Rian looked past her, waiting for more footsteps, but the cave had settled and her daughter did not appear.
