Every morning, got a hollow where my heart goes. I never listen, but I see you with my eyes closed. I know you, I remember the grass stain. Maybe I could be a better human with a new name.

OCTAVIA WAS THE FIRST of her people to stand on the surface and soak in the sun. As she was raised from the rubble, Gaia led the others who waited in prayer, chanting in Trig, 'from the ashes, we will rise.' It was the slogan for Cadogan's cult and the reason Monty figured out how to unlock the bunker. It prickled Bellamy's skin with goosebumps like he was hearing the man preach again over the tablet Jaha held in the backseat.

⠀⠀⠀After helping people steady themselves on the surface and coming across the gun attached to Miller's hip, Bellamy left them on their own to find Octavia standing at the edge of the ruins. In the light, Bellamy could see how much she had grown. When they'd first come to the ground, Octavia was only sixteen, still baby-faced and naïve. He could remember her bright smile as she ran around the camp grounds and her stubborn claim that she was going to go exploring with Finn, Clarke, and the small crew they'd gathered.
