The sun dipped low over the Los Angeles High football field, casting golden rays across the green turf. The Dream Squad strolled confidently toward the field, where Eddie Luggins was practicing his spiral throws. Wearing a dark grey hoodie over a red Doctor Strange shirt, navy-blue joggers, and yellow sneakers, Eddie looked focused as he wound up and launched a perfect pass into the air.
"Eddie!" Princess called out with a wave, her voice light and cheerful.
But Eddie didn't hear her.
Claudine scoffed. "Chill, girlfriend. Let me handle this."
She cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled at the top of her lungs, "YO, LUGGINS!! WE GOTTA TALK!!!"
The other girls immediately covered their ears, wincing.
Eddie froze mid-throw, then looked over and waved as the group approached. "Hey, girls! What's up?" he called back, jogging over.
Princess's expression turned serious. "We've got a situation," she said quietly, glancing around to make sure no one was eavesdropping. "Bowser... he knows."
Eddie frowned. "Knows what?"
"About us," Princess admitted. "He somehow took a photo of us at Olive Garden—sharing spaghetti. He plans to expose it tonight at the Parent Council event. To the Bad Guys."
Eddie's easygoing expression dropped, and his jaw tightened. "He WHAT?" His fists clenched. "I'll kill that overgrown snapping turtle!"
Princess gently touched his arm. "Eddie, calm down. Violence is exactly what he wants. But I've got a plan."
She gave him a mischievous smile.
"You remember the song you sang at the talent show last year—When Can I See You Again by Owl City?"
"Yeah..." Eddie replied, curious. "Why?"
"You're going to sing it again—tonight. It'll be the perfect distraction. While you're on stage, Claudine will swipe Bowser's phone. I'll be backstage with my laptop, ready to hack in and delete the photo."
Eddie's expression softened into a smile. "For you?" he said with a wink. "Anything."
The girls squealed in unison, bursting into excited chatter.
"YES!" Zoey cheered, doing a little dance. "You guys feel this?! This is ENERGY!!"
Claudine pumped her fist. "Yeah! This must be what the Bad Guys felt like before a big heist!"
Laura held up a finger. "Hold up! If we're doing this, we are going to look fabulous doing it."
She pulled out her phone and scrolled to a picture of five sleek, stylish dresses she'd designed herself. "I made these for the Parent Council event—custom looks, tailored to perfection. We're going in fierce."
The squad gathered around her screen and gasped.
"They're GORGEOUS," Zoey said.
"Totally red carpet-ready," Claudine added.
"Diva mode activated," Princess said, flipping her hair. "Okay, girls—and Eddie. We have our mission. Tonight, we protect my secret, take back control, and show Bowser what happens when you mess with the Dream Squad."
They huddled together in a dramatic group circle, fists stacked in the middle.
"For friendship!" Zoey said.
"For fashion!" Laura added.
"For secrets and sabotage!" Claudine grinned.
"For Eddie and me," Princess said, locking eyes with him.
"Let's do this," Eddie said, confident and calm.
They threw their hands in the air and yelled together:
"DREAM SQUAD GO!"
