Anyone who had met Kirishima would without a doubt confirm that he is the manliest most man on the planet. But Kirishima didn't start out that way.

Supportive parents, gender affirming surgeries and recovery helped Kirishima become the man he is today. However, sometimes he felt like an imposter, and his scars on his chest looked more eye catching than they really are sometimes.

Exposure therapy at its finest was when Kirishima created his costume, but he quickly became too ashamed to embody it. Thankfully fake chest molds existed and the seams were cleverly hidden by his shoulder guards. So no one was the wiser.

Until beach day.

It was a spontaneous side quest driven by the bakusquad after going out for ice cream. Kirishima's little, Katsuki, was starting to overheat and the riverside park was the perfect fix. Although, Kirishima's chest mold was still in his dorm. So while everyone insisted on jumping in for a swim after buying cheap swimsuits. Kirishima feigned sun sickness and hid in the shade, arms folded over his shirt covered chest.

Katsuki joined him after being put in timeout for almost drowning "stupid pikachu".

Kirishima started to sweat. Not because of the heat but because his little's beady ruby eyes were on him now. He had that childish look any kid would get scolded for staring. 

He looked to Katsuki, who looked like he wanted to say something. "Whats up bub?"

"Pikachu deserved it. Wouldn't pway mermaids wif me."

Kirishima held back his laugh. "That must have been frustrating Kat, but Kaminari doesn't have to play mermaids with you if he doesn't want to."

"I didn't want him to pway wif me."

"Huh?"

"I wanted you to pway wif me. But you're being weird." Katsuki huffed, crossing his arms and making a childish pout.

"Oh..." Kirishima instinctively looked down at his chest. Katsuki was aware of the post surgery scars, they often had bath time so it wasn't a secret between them. He forgot to tell his little that he wasn't this comfortable with everyone.

Katsuki suddenly got real close, staring deep into Kirishimas eyes, somewhat unnerving him. "Is it cause of yr battle scars?" he pokes his caregivers chest for emphasis.

"B-battle scars?"

"Ya these ones." Katsuki then proceeds to try and shove his head up his caregivers shirt.

"Kat!"

Kirishima squawked in surprise, trying to gently push Katsuki back without laughing. "Whoa there, buddy! Personal space!"

Katsuki didn't budge, arms latched stubbornly around Kirishima's middle. "I like them," he mumbled into his shirt. "They look cool. Like you fought a dragon or something."

That caught Kirishima off guard. His breath hitched.

For a moment, he didn't know what to say. The insecurity that had been knotting in his gut all afternoon loosened just a little.

"You think so?" he finally asked, voice quieter now.

Katsuki nodded, still smooshed against him. "Mhm. You're like... a knight or somethin'. With armor. But real brave underneath."

Kirishima bit back a sudden sting in his eyes. He was not about to cry in the middle of a park. "You're too smart, you know that?"

"I'm a gen-e-us." Katsuki puffed.

Kirishima chuckled, ruffling the boy's damp, spiky hair. "Well, thank you. That means a lot to me."

Katsuki leaned back finally, giving him a squint-eyed once-over. "So are you gonna come swim or what?"

Kirishima hesitated again, fingers twitching at the hem of his shirt. Then he glanced toward the water, where Kaminari was doing a terrible backstroke and Mina was dramatically fake-drowning for attention.

He looked back at Katsuki. His little was waiting.

"...Alright," Kirishima said, voice low but steady. "But only if you promise not to splash me in the face this time."

"No promises!" Katsuki yelled gleefully, already running toward the water.

Kirishima laughed again, heart feeling a little lighter. He tugged off his shirt slowly, letting the breeze kiss his scars, then jogged after his little, not caring if anyone stared.

Battle scars or not, he was still the manliest man on the planet.

And apparently, a very in-demand mermaid.
