Leanne was bored. Another week had gone by, and it was Saturday. It was the first term school holidays. She was lying down in her bedroom with nothing to do. She was so bored that she had already finished her school homework, and if she didn't have anything to entertain herself with, she would probably do all her tutor homework as well. She grabbed her phone and checked it for what seemed like the millionth time. She groaned.
Still no new messages. Everyone else seemed to be busy. For once, she wished for school. It would keep her occupied from this everlasting boredom.
Over the past week Claire had gotten this idea to create a group chat with herself, Leanne, Caitlin, Helina and Cailyn in it. There they chatted about the singing concert, rehearsals and random things that dragged on for so long Caitlin would text: you guys really need to stop talking, which sounded nice, but was basically code for 'SHUT UP RIGHT NOW OR I WILL KILL YOU'.
Today, Caitlin had to go 'somewhere'. Knowing Caitlin, it was probably a personal thing if she didn't elaborate on it. Claire had a family gathering at her grandma's house, which inconveniently had no wifi, Helina had to babysit three of her cousins at once, and Cailyn had to go to the park to meet someone.
Leanne was staring glumly at the messages she'd sent more than an hour ago. To be specific, three hours and sixteen minutes ago.
Me: Hi, people.
Me: Uh, hello?
Me: Somebody say SOMETHING. I'm bored as f.
Me: Fine, I get it, you're all busy.
Me: You guys have got to be kidding me. It's been an hour and NONE of you have replied?
Helina: Wow, you must be really bored. Oh, got to go, one of my cousins are crying.
Me: FINALLY! SOMEONE REPLIES!
Me: ...
Me: I guess I'm on my own again.
Me: Hello? HELLO?
Me: I'm just going to wait until one of you say something.
Leanne had been waiting, but no one had replied (except for Helina. How hard could babysitting three cousins be?!?). She was about to spam her friends with a bunch of messages when she realised that she could have easily just texted someone else - and she knew this someone would be as bored as she was.
Hey. Bored?
Anna replied within two seconds. No surprise there.
YES. Definitely. Been playing Fruit Ninja on my phone.
Do you wanna do something?
Sure. I'm free.
What do you wanna do?
Uh, go shopping? I don't know.
Okay.
Can anyone else come?
Everyone else is busy...hang on, there's Claudia. Let me ask her. Brb.
Leanne texted Claudia. Claudia told her that she could come shopping, but on the next day, not today. Leanne repeated what Claudia had texted her to Anna. Anna sent an emoji of a sour-looking face.
Dammit. I really wanted to go shopping today.
There's still tomorrow, Anna.
Shut up. I can't wait 24 hours. Too long.
