The first thought that Claudia had in her head when she read the text was: I'm screwed.
She was invited to a formal - which meant...a dress. And she didn't have one good enough. Looks like she would have to shop for it at the shopping centre tomorrow with her friends. For her outfit for tomorrow, she decided to wear a skirt, after convincing Cailyn to wear a skirt too.
Claudia looked around at her overcrowded room. It was messy, but she liked it. It gave this cosy feeling and it was the only place where she felt truly safe.
Leanne had been singing this unfamiliar Japanese song under her breath during the week at school. When Claudia asked her what was she singing, Leanne told her to ask Claire, because she had forgotten the name. Claire told her the song was called Dear You. Now Claudia listened to it, and she found it quite nice.
But the song that she loved and found absolutely beautiful was Inori Song - the bittersweet Japanese song Cailyn had chosen to sing for the national singing competition. Whenever she was sad (which was a lot of the time) she would open up her laptop and listen to that song, and it would make her feel better.
Now, as she prepared to turn the song on again, she paused as she saw new messages from the group chat pop up on her phone. They were texts from Claire and Cailyn.
Claire: Just before I killed a mosquito by putting it in a cup and drowning it.
Cailyn: Why would you kill an innocent mosquito?!?!? They are innocent creatures!
Claudia chuckled softly to herself so her father wouldn't hear her. She knew all about Cailyn's love for creatures and how she couldn't stand watching Claire kill them all right in front of her eyes (like what she did with the spider). Claire thought she was going to be a vegan one day. Anna said she could relate because her family thought she was going to turn into a vegetarian because she didn't like meat.
Claire: I was in the shower. I wasn't decent. It didn't respect my privacy.
Me: *GASPS* How rude!
Cailyn: You need to respect its rights.
Claire: It was going to suck out my blood! It could have come from Vietnam, and then I would have gotten malaria.
Me: Yes, Claire, because the mosquito travelled all around the world before reaching its final destination...your bathroom.
Claire: And I wasn't DECENT.
Me: We are totally making a new story: The Tale of the Travelling Mosquito.
Claire: We are knights, and we will aim to smite all the lower class.
Me: YES, WE WILL SMITE ALL THE MOSQUITOES!
Cailyn: You guys have got to be kidding.
Claire: RULE: WE WILL SMITE WHOEVER DOESN'T RESPECT PRIVACY!
Me: HEAR, HEAR!
The conversation went on for a while with just the three of them. Finally, Claire acknowledged the fact that they sounded ridiculous, which was normal, since she was Claire after all, but she was still a bit late by her own standards.
Cailyn was against the whole 'smiting mosquitoes' plan the whole time, but Claudia nor Claire really listened to her.
Since it was late, Claudia decided to leave Claire and Cailyn sprout facts about satyrs and fauns and went to bed. She wanted to be at the shops early tomorrow. They were all meeting up so Leanne could finally go to Yo-Art (she had never been before) and they could buy Christmas presents for each other. Yes, they were early, since Christmas wasn't for another three months or so, but better early than late. And plus, who cared?
