Leanne hadn't dressed up and gone trick-or-treating at Halloween ever since she was a little second-grader. But here she was, going out again, on that very night, at the age of fourteen, because Helina simply insisted - and nobody could say no to the littlest and cutest girl in the group, could they?

Yes, it was Helina out of all people who came up with the idea. The shyest and most timidest girl of the group wanted to go out on a night that was all about scary stuff. Funny how the world works, right?

Everyone had eagerly wanted to go - seriously, they were such children - except Yao, who probably still felt a little awkward talking to people that she didn't really know or hadn't seen before (in some cases). Plus Helina mentioned that Yao didn't like Halloween.

Joy was coming too - because Claire had persuaded her to.

They were just going to be walking down a bunch of streets, dressed up and looking like idiots (Leanne's words) while random little kids rushed past them in their excitement to get candy from adults.

Meeting place was Claire's house, which was fine with Leanne.

Now, it was evening, and Leanne had dressed up in a long flowing light blue dress with a swirly type of mask (eye mask) to match for Halloween. She was a dancer at a masquerade ball.

Before she left, she decided to bring some candy with her just in case, and bid her family goodbye (her brother laughed at her for looking so girly) and walked out. The whole street had pumpkin lanterns glowing and already many people were bustling about, and the sky wasn't even fully dark yet.

But then again, the little kids would want to go early because the streets weren't safe at night.

Leanne was so lost into her thoughts that she didn't notice someone creeping up behind her. "Boo!"

She turned around and screamed when she came face-to-face with a scary masked person. The person - a girl by the sound of it - started laughing.

"Your face was hilarious!" she giggled. She was dressed in all black - black jeans, hoodie and all - except for the face mask, which was white and black. It looked really scary.

Leanne frowned. "Who are you?"

The girl froze, and then she pouted in indignation. "Are you serious? You can't recognise me? It's Caitlin!"

"Caitlin?" Leanne gasped. "Oh my God, you look nothing like yourself in that dark mask outfit."

"Well, you don't look like you either," she replied. "I only knew it was you because I saw you walking out of your house. I was waiting for you. That dress is really nice on you, by the way."

"Thanks. I'm a lady at a masquerade ball. Uh, can I ask what the heck you are?"

Leanne wasn't sure if Caitlin was trying to look offended or not, because she couldn't even see her face behind that huge face mask. "Really, Leanne? I'm a person from Slipknot!"

"Obviously," said Leanne, groaning. Of course Caitlin would dress like someone from one of her favourite bands. Of course.

She and Caitlin talked a bit and gave each other their candy (Caitlin had brought candy too) before continuing to walk to Claire's house.

Luck was really bad with her today, because soon another dressed up person leaped in front of them from behind a thick tree and brandished her broomstick at them, making Leanne scream and run towards Caitlin. The really embarrassing thing? Caitlin didn't even look scared and she was younger than Leanne.

"My scare was better," Caitlin told the newcomer. Leanne couldn't see the person's face, because the large pointed hat was blocking her view. But she knew it was a girl - because this girl was dressed in purple and black completely - the boots, knee-length frilly dress, belt and hat - except for the broomstick. She was clearly dressed as a witch - but a fashionable one, it seemed. Her hair was down and it had been curled slightly.
