"You know, I never thought we'd all see each other again so soon," Jarrod mused.
It was the weekend, and Cailyn had asked Caitlin, Jarrod and Sam on their own group chat that Caitlin had created nearly two weeks ago to help her paint a dog house that she'd bought for her new cocker spaniel, Violette. Her younger sister wasn't able to help her because she was going to rollerblade with her own friends. Cailyn called her a copycat.
Luckily for Cailyn, the others were quite willing to help her paint the dog house, although Jarrod seemed to change his mind when they first arrived at Cailyn's house and went into the backyard, because Violette ran crazily around the garden and leaped right into his arms, knocking him flat onto the grass while Caitlin and Sam laughed so hard that they couldn't even stand up properly.
During their hilarious moment with the puppy, Cailyn had opened the door of the garage and was gesturing impatiently for them to follow her. They did and found themselves facing many tins of different coloured paints. Caitlin's mouth had fallen open.
Now they all stared at Jarrod as he broke the silence by speaking.
"Jarrod, it's been half a month," Caitlin said pointedly.
"That's two weeks," he replied. "That's not very long."
"Are you saying that you don't like us being all together again?" she demanded. Jarrod stepped backwards nervously.
Sam grinned. "Don't make her mad, Jarrod. You'll regret it when she pounces on you."
Cailyn rolled her eyes. "Caitlin doesn't pounce on anybody. She'll go all Naruto on them."
"What the heck is Naruto?"
"How can you not know Naruto?" Caitlin exclaimed, whacking him on the back of his head. "Do you even know what manga is?"
"Jeez, woman, that hurt!" he complained. "And did you say mango? I love mangoes!"
Caitlin raised her fist to hit him, but Cailyn got there first. She kicked him in the shin so hard that he grabbed his leg and hopped around on one foot in pain.
"OW!" he yelled. "You peasant!"
"You're the peasant for not knowing what Naruto is," Cailyn retorted, turning away.
"Plus, that was a girl kick," said Jarrod, who was laughing his ass off. Apparently the sight of his best friend getting beaten up and yelled at by girls was really entertaining. Totally. Typical Jarrod. "Seriously, you need to be tougher."
Jarrod's laugh was cut short as Violette ran into the garage and jumped into his arms again. He staggered backwards, but this time he managed not to fall over. He cradled the little brown cocker spaniel in his arms. Surprisingly, Violette didn't scratch him or pull away. She must've really liked Jarrod.
Sam winced as he rubbed his leg. "You try getting kicked by a girl that's wearing boots with heels!"
Caitlin stared at Cailyn's black boots. "There are hardly any heels on those boots."
"Exactly," said Cailyn, giving Caitlin a high-five. "Now, Mr. Peasant, we're going to have to leave you with a hurt leg, so suck it up."
"Don't get all sassy with me, peasant girl," Sam grumbled. "I swear, after my leg doesn't hurt anymore, I'll - "
"Yes, we all know you'll kill her, but she'll probably kill you first," said Caitlin, smiling as Sam scowled at her. "Now what colour paint are we using for the dog house?"
"Can we use blue?" asked Jarrod, pulling the tin of light blue paint off the shelf.
"I was hoping we could paint it purple," said Cailyn, holding up another tin.
