Caitlin had been agitated the whole time. She had shuffled from side to side on her seat so much that Claudia, who had gotten annoyed, had to tell her to stop moving and be still more than once, but Caitlin just couldn't. She was too nervous about Leanne and Cailyn.

After all, she was the one who had wanted Leanne to perform ever since the singing concert was announced, which was near the start of the second term. Now it was the last week of term and the night of the singing concert. It seemed like so long ago. And Leanne was actually performing! Along with Cailyn, of course.

Luckily, Santhuri, who had come early, had gotten seats near the front for them.

When Caitlin saw emo rock star Leanne and pretty attitude-master girl Cailyn emerge from behind the thick black curtains, she hit Claire, who was busy talking to Helina and Claudia hard on the arm, making her yelp. "Shh! They're singing now!"

For the next three minutes or so, none of them moved as Cailyn began to sing, and then Leanne. Caitlin listened intently for the whole song, and she smiled when Leanne took Cailyn's hand for reassurance. When their voices mixed together to make one sound for the last note, she stood up in her seat and clapped enthusiastically. Her friends did the same.

Caitlin doubted Leanne and Cailyn would see them in the audience, since it was so dark, and the only lights were directed onto the stage, but she still felt like standing up for them anyway. They had put a lot of effort in that performance and suffered enough for it. And Flashlight was a good song, despite the fact that Caitlin didn't really like pop songs.

Leanne and Cailyn were no doubt the best singers so far. Well, there had been this cool boy that excelled at rapping and dressed like a rock star, but the girls were better. Before the two girls, Caitlin had only seen one other girl duet: a blonde girl and a brunette. The brunette had a good voice, but the blonde.......nooooooooooooo. Her voice was too high-pitched and she dragged out the notes for way too long. Caitlin had seen Helina cringing at her whiny voice.

Now, Claudia put two fingers in her mouth and let out a loud whistle.

Santhuri immediately covered her ears. "Dude, that was way too loud!"

"But they were so good, Banana!" said Helina, jumping up and down.

What surprised Caitlin was that Claire was jumping along with Helina. Claire never jumped like that. Not like a little girl. But her excitement had obviously gotten the best of her.

"Go, Leanne! Go, Coconut!" shouted Santhuri at the top of her lungs.

"Go, Moose! Go, Cocker Spaniel!" Claire yelled just as enthusiastically.

Caitlin, Claudia, Anna and Helina joined in with their cheering.

Meanwhile Theresa, not knowing why everyone had decided to refer to their friends as fruits and animals, despite knowing about the animal nicknames Leanne had made for them previously at the rollerblading rink, said, "What the hell?"

She probably forgot about the nicknames.

Anna started to laugh. "Don't worry. It's a long story."

Some other people stood up in the audience as well. It was hard to tell how many because Caitlin couldn't really see properly in the dark.

She was buzzing with shock and pride for Leanne and Cailyn. She was so happy for them both that she didn't notice that all the other singers had finished until the principal came back onto the stage. He formally asked all the performers to head back onto the stage, and Caitlin was surprised to see that Leanne and Cailyn came out with two other guys.
