Unfortunately, there had been no chocolate covered almonds for sale at Coles on the day that Claire, Cailyn and Theresa had gone there. They had all been bought, and no new ones had been brought in yet. Claire had been heartbroken (that was obviously an exaggeration), but as they say, you can't have everything you want.
The three girls had walked around the neighbourhood for another hour or so, but then they all went home as the sun had already dipped below the horizon long ago and nighttime was descending.
Afterwards, when she got home, she had had an idea to write a story - for the first time in years. Claire had written stories a few times when she was little, but when she got older, she had stopped completely because she simply had no ideas and not enough time.
She didn't know what to call the story just yet, but she knew what the name of the main character was going to be: Claire Silverstine.
She already had ideas to elaborate on in the story, and more and more were appearing in her head by the second, so she quickly jotted them all down on a piece of paper to make a plan for the story that she was going to write. When she was done, she grinned. The genre of her story was obviously adventure - she hated romance stories.
Anyway, she and her friends were really looking forward to tomorrow - the last day of the week. Their year level - and only their year level, which made it even more special - was celebrating the end of Zumba Week by spending the whole Friday at the nearby local pool. Everyone had been really excited, and Claire had been glad that her ankle had healed on time to permit her to swim.
She spent the rest of the night planning her new story. Soon, she had finished the makeshift prologue and was starting the first chapter when she realised she still needed a title - and possibly a cover, but that was something to worry about later.
But what should the title of her story be? She couldn't think of a title that was good enough.
The next day, Claire came to school with her swimming bag and met up with her friends. They chatted for a few minutes and showed each other the snacks they had brought with them - Caitlin had brought dark chocolate, Cailyn had sour straps, Theresa had lollipops and Anna and Leanne had both brought chips. Anna had brought salt and vinegar chips, which Claire didn't mind, but Leanne and Cailyn absolutely hated them.
When they all went into the bus, Claire sat with Anna. Leanne and Caitlin sat together opposite them, and Cailyn and Claudia were in front of them. Opposite those two were Theresa and Helina. During the bus ride Anna showed Claire her Legolas bobblehead that she had bought recently. Upon seeing it, Cailyn had gotten really jealous because she wanted a Loki bobblehead herself. Because the Legolas bobblehead had come with bubble wrap around it, Claire and Anna spent most of the bus ride playing with the bubble wrap.
Leanne and Caitlin were doing the Osu dance in their seats and dancing to whatever rock song Caitlin was humming; Theresa was trying to force Helina to eat a piece of chocolate (because Helina hated chocolate); and Cailyn and Claudia were laughing about something. Claire suspected it was about her because she heard her name in their conversation.
They were sitting in the middle of the bus, which was fine with Claire, because at the back were where all the super loud people were. They yelled and shouted so much that the teacher repeatedly had to tell them to be quiet and respect the bus driver.
"Seriously, everyone in here is so loud," Leanne complained, staring at all the students sitting behind her. "Can't they be quiet for even five minutes?"
"Hey, this is nothing," said Cailyn, exchanging a glance with Caitlin, who nodded grimly.
"What do you mean?"
