Leanne pushed the couches in her living room to the far corner, leaving room in the middle. That was where she and her friends would be sleeping. Her brother had asked her why didn't she just sleep in her bed, and she had told him that that defeated the purpose of a slumber party.
She had taken out all the chips, lollies and chocolate and put them on the coffee table on the other side of the living room. She'd also put the radio on the floor next to the TV in the room. On an impulse, she'd also brought all her makeup things and left them on the table as well. She figured that Theresa and Anna would want to use them, and Caitlin would want to use it on Claire and Cailyn would want to use it on Helina.
She could already imagine herself sitting on her sleeping bag with the makeup kit and Theresa and Anna debating next to her about who should go first to do their makeup while Caitlin and Cailyn ran after Claire and Helina, who were trying to run away.
Her imaginary paradise was shattered when her mother called, "Leanne, is everything ready?"
"Yes!" she called back exasperatedly. That had to be at least the twentieth time her mother had asked her that question. But she was lucky that her mother let her have a slumber party at such short notice. She'd only allowed Leanne to have her slumber party because Leanne and Cailyn had come second in the singing competition and they were personally asked to try out for the national singing concert, which they had already accepted.
Leanne was feeling really nervous about the national singing competition. Singing in front of her school was one thing, but in front of a large crowd that most likely had professional people there judging them? No. She was more worried about Cailyn, though; she hoped that Cailyn wouldn't get stage fright. She made a mental note to herself to research about the national singing competition once the slumber party was over.
Her friends weren't due to come till 5:00 pm, which left around fifteen minutes for Leanne to muck around and do nothing till they came. Everyone was coming except Claudia and Santhuri, who both couldn't make it.
Leanne's mother had cooked spaghetti for dinner. Leanne could already smell it even when her mother wasn't even done yet. Her father was in his study, teaching her brother something. Maybe science, or maths. It was always one or the other.
After five minutes, she got so bored that she went on the group chat. Anna had recently added Theresa, and nobody minded.
Me: Where are you bishes?
Claudia: I can't come. You know that already :(
Me: I'm talking to every other little minx.
Caitlin: Chill, Lely. I'm coming!
Theresa: Just about to leave. What's Lely?
Caitlin: Leanne's nickname.
Theresa: Oh, yeah.
Anna: Everyone, Theresa officially has short term memory.
Theresa: Oi!
Helina: I need to pick up Cailyn. Be right there.
Anna: You're picking me up too then. I'm with Cailyn at the moment.
Helina: Really? I didn't know that. Cailyn!
Cailyn: What?
Helina: Why didn't you tell me that Anna was with you? Now I have to tell my mother.
Cailyn: Meh. It's only an extra person and sleeping bag.
Anna: Don't forget my bag for everything else.
