"So tell me why we're here - or really, why I'm here in the first place?" Theresa asked.
Leanne had called a few of her friends: Caitlin, Anna, Cailyn, Helina, Claudia and Theresa - to her house on Saturday to talk about something important. She'd kept it a secret and they were all bursting to know what it was, especially Theresa. She'd become increasingly annoyed every single time Leanne ignored her or changed the subject.
"Well..." said Leanne slowly.
"Just say it," said Caitlin. "I'd hate to think that I dragged my lazy ass here for nothing."
"Hey, I'm more of a couch potato than you are," said Theresa to Caitlin. "So I'm the one suffering the most here. Spit it out."
"OH MY GOD! SPIT IT OUT! BY SLIPKNOT!" Caitlin exclaimed in pure delight.
"THERESA!" Leanne yelled.
"SHUT UP!" Claudia said at the same time.
"What?" said Theresa, glancing back and forth from Leanne, Claudia and Caitlin, totally bewildered.
"Never mind - " Leanne began, but Caitlin interrupted her.
"Slipknot is one of my favourite bands, and also Bring Me The Horizon - OMG! OLI SYKES!" Caitlin gushed.
"You can stop fangirling now," said Cailyn. "Now spill. And don't tell me Spill is a Slipknot song," she added. Claudia groaned.
"No, it's not."
"Or Bring Me The Horizon's?" added Claudia.
"No."
"Thank Buddha and Jesus and all those other gods," sighed Leanne in relief.
"I'm personally offended," said Caitlin, although it was obvious that she wasn't really.
"TELL US ALREADY!" screeched Theresa, raising her hand as if to hit Leanne.
Anna slapped her on the arm. "Too loud!"
Leanne took a deep breath.
"Stop being dramatic AND JUST LET THE GODDAM NEWS OUT! IF YOU DON'T TELL US RIGHT THIS INSTANT, I SWEAR I WILL GO UP TO YOU AND KICK YOUR UNGRATEFUL ASS SO BAD - " Theresa began, but she didn't get far.
"I'll hit you first with my metal pole," said Leanne quite calmly, and she smiled as she saw Theresa's expression waver. Despite Theresa's rudeness, she liked Theresa, even when she had only known her for a short while. Anna had added Theresa to the group chat and they had gotten along with her from there. Theresa's straight up rudeness was funny and she was still friendly to everyone, even when she yelled at them like what she just did with Leanne. "But we don't have to get violent."
"Oh, come on!" Cailyn complained.
Helina facepalmed. "Just because you love your violence."
"Anyway," said Leanne, giving them both a shut up look, "the news is that...it's Claire's birthday next week!"
There was silence for three seconds. Leanne was about to wonder if she'd accidentally told them the wrong thing when they all started speaking.
"WHAT THE F - " Caitlin began to scream.
"My mother's outside! She can hear us!" said Leanne frantically.
"YOU DIDN'T THINK TO TELL US THIS BEFORE?" shouted Theresa.
"I was hoping to surprise you!"
"Are you serious? It's her birthday?" asked Helina.
"She didn't tell me when her birthday was!" said Claudia, clearly shocked.
