Early Morning – Outside Sid's House
The sun hadn't fully risen. While most of the house slept peacefully, Anu and Ri stood near the gate, Ri lazily tying his shoelace, Anu looking impatient.
Anu: "Tayaar hone mein ladko ko time lagta hain, ye naya seekha maine."
Ri (grinning): "Main toh soch raha hoon tuhi drive karle. Nakhre bhi kam honge aur rash driving bhi."
Anu (mock gasp): "Chup! Tujhe toh main scooty bhi nahi chalane dungi, car toh door ki baat hain."
They bickered all the way to the temple in the car, throwing jokes, teasing jabs, and loud fake complaints. But beneath it all, the tension of their mission hung steady.
At the Temple Premises
They entered the temple courtyard—familiar and unnervingly calm.
Anu (whispering): "Yahin tha na... jahan Avu ke sir pe gira tha woh sindoor."
Ri (looking around): "Haan, aur Leela us time pe idhar corner mein khadi thi. I remember us turning back when the priest bumped into Avu."
They approached the small temple office, where an older Pandit ji sat with spectacles sliding down his nose, muttering under his breath while flipping pages of a yellowed register.
Ri: How will we ask him about it ?
Anu: You just wait and watch.
Anu (sweet smile): "Namastey Pandit ji."
Pandit ji (suspiciously): "Haan ji? Kaun ho beta?"
Anu (cutting in confidently): "Ham log social documentary bana rahe hain... romantic filmo ki hindi mein. Aapke temple ki ek clip chahiye thi — bas ek scene, jismein ek puja mein sindoor gir gaya tha."
Pandit ji (suspiciously): Kya?
Anu (Covering up): "Haan. Mere kehne ka matlab hain..kahin kabhi pooja vagera mein aisa kabhi hua ho aur woh camera mein aa gaya ho aur woh humein mil jaaye toh hum woh leke bade bade filmo ke liye de sakte hain....
The pandit narrowed his eyes like a suspicious old hawk.
Pandit ji: "Media se ho kya?"
Ri: "Nahi nahi, chhote vloggers hain. YouTube pe teen subscriber hain bas. Usmein se ek toh mummy hi hain."
Anu bit her lip to stop from laughing.
The pandit stared at them... then slowly nodded and led them to a tiny room stacked with old hard drives, dusty shelves, and one aging desktop computer.
Anu flipped her hair dramatically. Ri rolled his eyes.
As the footage from the puja day began to load, the tension between them shifted.
Anu (fidgeting): "Hope yeh sab kaam kare... warna Leela ki nautanki kabhi khatam nahi hogi."
Ri: "Woh toh waise bhi nahi hogi. Tere jaise log jab uski chakki pe roti bel rahe ho."
Anu (glaring): "Main maid sirf unke liye hoon, Roti peli thi unke liye. Par belan se maroge tum"
Ri: "Haan haan... aur meri shirt bhi galti se iron ho gayi thi na?"
