Isabella jolted up from her sleep and panicked as she couldn't find Kelsey. "Kelsey?!" Isabella said with a panicked voice as she looked around the room. Kelsey came in and saw Isabella nearly having a panic attack. She rushed to her and immediately hugged her.
"It's okay. I'm here," Kelsey whispered to Isabella. As soon as Isabella hugs Kelsey, she starts calming down. "Do you want to talk about it?" Kelsey asked softly.
"I can't." Isabella said.
"You'll have to start talking to someone about it. I know you haven't been getting much sleep. Alana has been keeping me updated." Kelsey said.
"I'm fine." Isabella said.
"But you're not. Even if you don't want to, you're still going to have to go through a psych evaluation to be approved to go back." Kelsey said.
"I will be fine." Isabella said.
"Babe, please just talk to someone about it. You've gone through so much in just the almost year that I've known you. Plus what you've just been through; bottling everything up isn't going to solve anything or make you stronger. It will just keep building up, and over time it will all come out whether that's through anger or sadness or both." Kelsey said.
"I will be fine." Isabella said, again. Kelsey sighed, figuring it will be no use trying to convince her any more. After Isabella fell asleep, Kelsey went and found Alana, telling her that she can't convince Isabella to see a therapist.
"Well, there's only one option left." Alana said.
"What's that?" Kelsey asked.
"Make an appointment for her and take her without her knowing where I'm taking her." Alana said.
"I don't know about that." Kelsey said.
"It's the only way she's going to talk to someone." Alana said.
"Yeah, but shouldn't she make the decision to willingly go to a therapist?" Kelsey asked.
"Of course, but she's stubborn and won't make that decision. So as her sister, I'm making that decision for her." Alana said.
"She's going to hate you for forcing her to go." Kelsey pointed out.
"I would rather be the bad guy and be hated rather than not doing anything and finding out in a few years time that she committed s-" Alana couldn't finish the sentence. So instead she decided to rephrase it. "Something needs to be done now before it's too late." Alana said. Kelsey nodded, and Alana went to get Isabella. Alana had her get ready, and she took Isabella to the car. Kelsey stayed behind, and she impatiently waited for them to get back. It took nearly two hours, and Kelsey was texting Alana constantly checking in. When they got back, Isabella walked in in tears. Kelsey tried to hug her, but Isabella gently pushed her away and stormed past her to her room.
"What happened?" Kelsey asked.
"I don't know what was said in her appointment, so I have no idea. But that's how she walked out." Alana said.
"So she never talked to you afterwards?" Kelsey asked.
"No. But I think it's a good idea to let her cool off for a little bit and give her a little space." Alana said. Kelsey didn't want to, but she knew Alana was right. However, after about five minutes, Kelsey couldn't wait any longer. She went to Isabella's room and knocked softly before entering. Kelsey hated to see Isabella cry. Kelsey walked over to Isabella and laid down right beside her. Isabella cuddled up to Kelsey, and Kelsey wrapped an arm around her.
"My dream that I keep having, it's the night Brandi is shot, but it's you instead of Brandi. And when I get to you, you always smile and tell me that it should've been me." Isabella said in a quivering voice.
"Woah, okay. First of all, I don't think that at all. Second, I'm glad that you're still here." Kelsey said.
"But do you still want to be with me? I mean, this job is dangerous, and I saw you hugging A'ja outside of the hospital with your two teams in a prayer circle. I can't put you through that much pain and worry every single day. I mean, just look at my comment sections. So many people are saying that you can do so much better, you deserve so much better. Maybe they're right." Isabella said.
"Are you seriously wanting to break up?" Kelsey asked, heart completely shattering.
"Right now I think it's best that we just take a break. You have to focus on your career and can't be focused on me." Isabella said.
"You're my top priority right now, though." Kelsey said.
"But your team needs you." Isabella said.
"And I need you. The team is fully supportive of me being here with you and understand that I would rather be here than playing basketball right now." Kelsey said.
"Kelsey, please. I need space right now and need to focus on grieving properly rather than bottling everything up. I can'tdo that with you here." Isabella said.
"So I'm the problem." Kelsey stated.
"That's not what I said."
"No, but it felt like it was implied." Kelsey said.
"What I meant was that when I'm around you, all I want to do is protect you from all of the dangers that are out there, and that includes not telling the horrors that I see as an officer on the daily." Isabella said.
"And how does that affect you not talking to someone?" Kelsey asked.
"Because I don't want to risk you overhearing what I'm saying. I know it may not make sense, but right now I just need to do this alone." Isabella said. Isabella looked down at her ring finger. It pained her to do, but she took off her ring and gently grabbed Kelsey's hand and placed it on Kelsey's palm. "In case you decide you don't want to be with me anymore and want to fully break up." Isabella said and walked out, leaving Kelsey there in tears. In true Isabella fashion, she decided to go for a run. She didn't care that the staples were still in. She just needed to run and listen to music. She knew it was cold of her to just leave Kelsey there like that, but she knew if she didn't, then she would just change her mind. She didn't want to take a break, but the therapist Alana made her see helped her realize that she needed no distractions. When Isabella felt like she was ready, then she planned on going back to Kelsey. That is, if Kelsey doesn't fully break up with her.
