A few minutes of silence pass between us as Ash and I wait for her to tell us what he'd told her, but after a while I realise that she wasn't gonna tell us anytime soon and it was much more likely that she'd sit staring at her phone until one of us finally spoke to her again.
"So... What did he say?" I push, reaching out to tap her arm to get her attention.
She looked up a little startled because, as I'd guessed, she'd been off in the world of Allison Kutcha and completely oblivious to her two best friends.
"Oh." She stuttered, "erm, he said that he wants to discuss this and make a decision once and for all. He said to meet him in the coffee house down our road by six tonight so that we can find out what's going on between us and if we wanna date again or stay clear of each other or whatever..."
I waited for the second option but she was unfocused again, "or...?" I encouraged.
"He said that if I didn't show up, he'd assume that I didn't wanna find out and that we'll just be friends and that's it for as long as we know each other."
"Jeez, that was a long text." Ally said, leaning back in her chair, I shot her a glare which she ignored, "but that's an easy choice, you made it seem oh so dramatic."
"How is it easy?" I asked.
"Are you serious?" Ash asked, obviously surprised at my question, then she rolled her eyes, "Ally needs to go, obviously, she loves him so they can have a relationship, simple." She explained in a duh voice and smiled smugly.
Ally let out a frustrated sigh, "except what if I show up just to find out that he actually hates me and can never forgive me and doesn't wanna ever have to speak to me again? What if we have another argument and he starts to hate me even more?" She asked, voicing the things that I had been thinking myself, "at least if I don't go then I know we can still be friends, that I can talk to him..."
"But then you'll never be able to be with him again." I reminded her quietly.
Ally looked down at the table and started to bite her nail in silence.
"Erm, I'm gonna go. I need to think about this and I wanna be on my own. I'll see you later, okay?" Ally said, standing up hurriedly and all but running for the door.
"Ally wait!" I called after her, trying to find my purse so that I could pay the bill for the food, Ally stopped and turned to look at me, tapping her foot impatiently, "if you just give me a second I'll drive you, you don't have a car, remember?"
"It's okay, I'll walk. The fresh air will probably help." She told us.
Ash looked over at Ally dumbfounded, "you do realise it'll take you a good forty minutes to walk back right?"
"Yeah. Bye Ash, bye Aimee." She called, already halfway out the door.
Some people would probably think I'm a bad friend for letting her walk away alone in her state; but sometimes you gotta let people have time to themselves, even if their your bestfriend and you wanna always be the one they turn to for help.
People just need to help themselves sometimes in order to do what they believe will bring them the most happiness and I understood that.
"I think I'm gonna go too, I wanted to go to the library and see if they have any cook books, I'm really in the mood for baking." I tell Ashleigh honestly, I really had felt like baking lately, "you need a lift?"
"Nah, it's fine. Johnson said he wanted to meet anyway so I'll just get him to come here." Ash says, stuffing the last piece of her subway into her mouth.
