I woke up alone in my bed the next morning and ran my hands through my hair. Seeing my pajama pants on the floor but the feeling of my shirt and briefs being on, I started to recall the events that happened last night.

"Do you have a condom?"

"No."

"How far are you willing to go?"

"I could ask you the same thing."

"You know my answer."

"Mine isn't any different."

We stared into each other eyes but I noticed a change in the look that Justin was giving me. He looked unsure and when he got off of me I knew the moment between us was over. I watched him put on his briefs then his pants but before he could leave, I stopped him.

"What... what are you-"

"I'm sorry Adrian but-"

"Don't say it," I said, cutting him off, "don't say that you can't."

"Even though it's the truth?"

"Why!?"

"Adrian-"

"Just tell me why Justin! Why can't you let me give myself to you like you do with everyone else?"

"Because-"

"It's just sex right!?"

"Not with you!"

Right.

So that happened and when I was fully awake I grabbed my phone to send a text to him. How things ended last night didn't sit right with which is surprising considering I was able to fall asleep.

Me: Can we talk?

I waited.

And waited.

And waited but nothing came through so I sent him another message.

Me: I'm sorry

I didn't wait around for him to text me back so I just turned off my phone. I stared at my reflection on the screen but when there was a knock on the door, I didn't get a chance to answer because my mom was already pushing it open.

"Oh good," she said with a warm smile as she made her way inside. "You're awake."

I let out a breath as I watched her close the door before sitting at the foot of my bed. "Good morning, mom," I said, barely able to bring my voice above a low tone.

"Good morning," she said, then slowly I watched her smile fade away. "Adrian. Hon, I think you know why I'm in here right now."

I nodded. "I know mom and-"

"Your dad and I really think that you should consider helping your sister run the business."

Was she serious?

"Mom-"

"I know you two don't always get along but you are all each other has right now," she carried on. "Your dad and I can't do everything all at once. Especially not today."

"What do you mean?"

"There's a meeting in a few hours and two events that we got invited to tonight."

"So..."

"So we need you and Erica to go to one of the events tonight."

"I'm not going," I said in a firm tone.
