The biology exam was creeping up on me. It wasn't like an official exam, as Mr. Minho loved torturing us with tests he'd written himself. It was a class test that, according to him, was going to take on a whole other level of memorisation.
So, therefore, I decided to isolate myself in the school library to study. Failure was not the road I wanted to face leading up to graduation.
After school, Jungkook texted me that he was going grocery shopping. I messaged back: Save me some banana milk before you drink them all yourself!
He replied: Better study quick then. A smirking emoji came after it.
Time (for this specific test) was relevant. And I mean relevant. I wasn't ready to waste my minutes on anything besides studying. It's the most I've done in my life so far.
Lisa called me crazy for committing so hard for this test. Frankly, she wasn't very great at tests and exams, which made sense when she said that to me.
My ears were occupied with music through earbuds, my hands were occupied with my notes, and my mind was occupied with focus.
I drifted myself into the music.
Five minutes into my zone and pen ink solidly painting sentences in fine lines, a part of my peripheral vision was disturbed by an obvious presence stood around me, waiting.
Knuckles hit the wooden frame of the booth, knocking me out of my study bubble. I shot my eyes up, and noticed Cha Eun Woo swinging his chill-as-ever body over the side of the booth.
"Am I bothering you?"
"Um," I slid off my earplugs, "well, I was just about finishing up with studying for the biology test. I think I remember enough."
A glee sparked throughout his lips. "That's good to hear." And for some reason that my brain was yet to comprehend was Why is he just standing here like he's about to ask for something?
"Is everything okay?" I spit out a question, curious.
"Sorry," he chuckled. "It's awkward enough of me to just stand here, but I wanted to tell you about how we were going to hang out after school.
Realisation smacked me across the face when his text message from last night found its way from Forgotten Memory Lane and took control of my mind in the moment.
"Oh god. That is my bad, you're right. Studying just swept all my priorities, and so I totally forgot about your request. I'm happy to hang out."
His signature eye-creasing smile broke his lips before I'd then join his side, allowing him to lead us to wherever he had planned. The park, I just remembered.
In polite small talk, he asked me about my studying for the dreadful upcoming biology test, to which I rambled. Hopefully not too much for his ears to handle, but with the use of swiping quick gazes of his expression, not a discomforting crease on his face became visible.
Soon we would meet the park that lived just behind the outdoor sports field. Cha Eun Woo had his hands slid in his pockets while I was feeling sensations of sweat from the climbing temperature.
"Any plans for the week?" He asked as we approached a bench.
"Not really, no." A picture of my phone calendar chimed in my head. "Oh—well, there might be, actually." That occupied space in the calendar being Jungkook's birthday. September 1st.
"What is it?"
Hesitation was lecturing my brain on not to tell him, but lying wasn't the key to the resolving door.
