Dan
Thanks to a scientific breakthrough a few years ago, I was finally able to have a child with my husband. We've been married for a few years now, even though we never really announced it until this year. It was probably super obvious though, as we liked going to fancier/more romantic places for important date nights, and we've practically been attached at the hip since we met back in 2009. It's amazing knowing someone for so long and still being completely and utterly in love with them.
Phil and I have adopted a few kids, but once we heard about the fact that we could have our own- a combination of us- we knew we had to try. Hours of doctors appointments and years of waiting, and here we were in the office ready to finally have our own. Phil reached over and grabbed my hand, squeezing slightly. I leaned into his side, hoping that everything would work out.
A knock at the door interrupted the comfortable silence, but I didn't mind much. "Hello Mr and Mr Lester, how are you guys doing today?" Our doctor was an older woman in her mid sixties with graying hair, but she was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She's been with us through this entire journey, and by now she feels more like family. She went through all of the information before turning to us with a smile, "Are you ready?"
A few hours later, we walked out of the small office with an extra bounce in our steps. Today marks the day it all begins. We got the approval. We can have our own child. Hand in hand, we walked down the streets of our smaller English town, smiles on our faces. This was happening.
A few months passed, and our child was growing inside of the surrogate mother, who happened to be a friend of ours who was so excited for us that she offered to be the surrogate. One of the best things was being able to reveal the news to our two other children, Dillon and Janice; their reactions were priceless. We adopted Dil from a local agency and Janice from Japan, our favourite place. Although they were still pretty young, they seemed really excited to have another addition to the Lester family. Even our shiba inu seemed excited.
Finally, the nine months had passed. Our little bundle of joy was here. We made a beautiful baby girl. She was perfect. She entered the world peacefully and just stared at us for a while before falling asleep in Phil's arms. Little Delia, our sweet tiny little human.
One of the best thing about children is watching them grow up and become themselves. Dil grew into a tall, muscular man, going on to being one of England's best football (soccer) players. Janice was gifted with music. She watched me play piano one day, sitting next to me on the bench and soaking in everything she could. I caught her playing once and was nearly moved to tears. Phil and I found a piano teacher right away and she flew with it. We also taught her about her home country Japan and went on family vacations there as often as we could so that she knew her heritage. Delia went on to become a video game creator and reviewer, something she loved. It was amazing being able to see which parts of Phil and I she got. She got his beautiful blue/green/yellow eyes, my hobbit hair, my dimples, and she does the peekaboo tongue thing when she laughs like Phil does. She got our personalities too- she got Phil's bubbly happy spirit and my dark humour, which you wouldn't expect from her at first because she comes off as so nice she almost seems innocent. She was ours. A combination of so many of our traits, but a completely unique individual and her own person.
Phil and I were a family with three beautiful kids, and I couldn't be happier.
(A/N hi okay I just want to thank Stephanie {puritysivan on twitter} for sending me a pic of Dan and Phil with a child and giving me feels and then I want to thank Shay {troylerphantom on twitter} for helping me choose the name Delia okay bye)
