Dan

Grabbing the final touches for the date, I hurriedly tried to jam everything into a backpack to surprise Phil. I had already packed sandwiches, crisps, fruit, and other snacks, but the blanket was the hardest thing to fit. I decided on a slightly smaller blanket, hoping it was still big enough for the picnic. It wasn't a special day or anything, but that's what makes it a surprise. All I told Phil was that I wanted to go into town and shop for a bit, which was partially true, but I also wanted to stop by our favorite park and enjoy lunch together. Slinging the backpack over my shoulder, I stepped out of my room and walked to the lounge to greet him.

I found him sitting on the couch on his phone, and I appreciated the few moments I got to look at him before he realized I was in the room. Whatever he was doing, he looked focused, his eyebrows creased slightly and his tongue just barely poking out between his lips. Leaning against the door frame, I found myself smiling while watching him. He's cute. I'm glad I get to call him mine.

Clearing my throat, I stepped into the room. "Ready to go?"

Finally acknowledging my presence, he glanced up and smiled quickly before his focus once again landed on the phone in his hand. "One second, just let me beat this level real quick."

Nodding, I walked over and sat down next to him on the couch, leaning into his side so I could see his screen. I'm not too sure what game it was, but I could see that it was time sensitive and it looked fairly intense. After a few minutes, he finished the level and slipped his phone into his pocket. Once we stood up, I intertwined our fingers together and pulled him to the door.

Shopping is exhausting. Especially when all you really want to do is curl up next to your boyfriend in the sun and eat a sandwich. After an hour of walking aimlessly through the mall and going into random stores, we finally found our way to the park.

"Dan, I'm hungry, let's go find something to eat and then we can come back to the park after," Phil murmured beside me.

"Or we could just eat here now," I snickered.

"Yeah, but we kind of need food to eat, not to state the obvious or anything but..."

Finally arriving at our favorite spot, I slung the backpack off my shoulders and set it on the grass. "Precisely, that's why I brought some already in this backpack." Taking out the blanket, I spread it on the grass and poured the food out of the backpack onto the center. Taking a seat, I started splitting up the food and dividing it between the two of us.

"This is why I love you. You just do all of this really cheesy and romantic stuff on random days for no reason, and that makes it even more memorable. You're adorable."

I could feel the large, dimply grin emerging before he even finished talking. "Shut up and eat your food," I murmured, trying to ignore the grin I knew was on my face.

We sat there eating and joking for a while, just enjoying the time together. The day was warm with a slight breeze and everything felt peaceful. There was no rush to do anything, we had all the time we wanted to sit in the grass and throw grapes at each other. I wish we could have a picnic everyday.
