Phil

We had planned to make it home from Christmas on the same day, as the house without the other doesn't feel quite as homey. Luckily, it worked, and we arrived home within a few hours from each other. I even tried convincing the train cart attendant to make the train go faster so I could beat Dan home as a fun surprise, but all I got was an eye roll in response, so that kind of failed. It's the thought that counts..

I've always loved reuniting after being away, even if it's only been a day or two. This time it had been nearly a week, and I had missed Dan like crazy. I haven't seen his cute little face in forever and I was having serious withdraws. I can't wait until the day where we can have our own house and invite both of our families over for the holidays, but until then, we have to spend them apart.

Finally home, I stepped out of the warm car into the frigid air, nearly tripping over myself in excitement at the thought of seeing him again. Rushing up the few flights of stairs, I quickly found my way to the front door. I scavenged around my pockets for a second before finding my key, I pushed it into the handle and turned the knob. Upon opening the door, I was greeted with warmth and the smell of our house. Setting my bags down, I went around the house searching for Dan.

"Phil, is that you?"

Speed walking to his voice, I found him in the kitchen making a pot of coffee. "Dan!" I rushed to him, nearly tackling him to the ground. I wrapped my arms around his waist, pressing my face between his shoulder blades, and took a deep breath. He smelled like home. He tried turning around to face me, but I couldn't stand to let him go. A soft chuckle passed his lips as he gave up, leaning back into me.

"I missed you," I whispered into his neck before finally loosening my hold on him so he can turn around.

"I missed you too," he replied, finally turning around to face me with a large, dimply grin on his face, before pulling me closer yet again. Resting my head on his chest, I could feel his heart beating through his shirt. He smelled really nice and his hugs were warm and comforting. He placed his head on my shoulder and lowered his hands, pulling me even closer. We stayed like that for a while, just enjoying each other's presence until the coffee beeped and we discussed our Christmases and the hope that by next Christmas we would be able to spend it together.
