Third pov

In the lush, untouched woodlands of the French countryside, a verdant landscape stretches out, not touched by man. Hear the crunching of leaves brushing through bushes. The figures were four girls walking side by side, but they didn't see or hear as they were in their own dimension packet.

(Imagine green forest.)

The girls have traveled through different times and centuries, following one individual's story who is more than he seems. They couldn't believe how beautiful this forest is; it reminds them of Vale during spring seasons. As they move through the forest, they hear male voices following the source. Eventually they find they were soldiers, British soldiers, wearing tan uniforms and Tommy helmets and carrying Lee Enfield rifles.

They were talking amongst themselves to their friends or to new faces who joined the regiment, prepping them for the battle that they were about to join.

They moved among the soldiers like ghosts who don't notice, see, or feel them. They draw near a group of soldiers, noticing their pale, blonde hair, and only one stands out: a ginger-haired, blue-eyed man who looks familiar to them. Simultaneously, they walk towards the ginger and notice that he looks familiar as they walk closer; clear as day, the man looks exactly like William.

B soldier: Daniel, mate.

Daniel: What do you want, twat?

B soldier: I ask the officer, and he agrees that the men need some cheering up. So I suggest you sing for the men.

Daniel: No, no, I am not singing. Have someone else.

B soldier: There's no one else. Nat was shot in the throat and is now mute. The other three in the company died. So it's you.

Daniel: I don't.

Daniel encouraged him to sing for the company, and then the company chanted his name. Eventually he gave in.

Daniel: Alright, alright. I'll see, but don't laugh if I sound like a duck.

He moves to the middle of the company and waits for him to sing. Daniel clears his throat and warms up.

B soldier 2: Are you going to sing or only sing in the shower, practicing for the ladies?

Daniel: Oh, shut up, you.

The soldiers laugh. As the laughter died down, wait for the young man. Daniel closes his eyes and focuses on the song.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger.I'm travellin' through this world of woe.Yet there's no sickness, toil, nor danger.
In that bright land to which I go.

I'm going there to see my Father.
I'm going there, no more to roam.
I'm only going over Jordan.
I'm only going over home.

The soldiers are in a trance as they listen to the song, picturing themselves at home—some on their farms, with families, or somewhere else—rather than at war. Soldiers' tears are welling up, even though others are already crying.

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me.
I know my way is rough and steep.
But golden fields lie just before me.
Where God's redeemed shall ever sleep.

I'm going home to see my mother.
And all my loved ones who've gone on
I'm only going over Jordan.
I'm only going over home.

Team RWBY listens intently as the young soldier, bearing a striking resemblance to William, breaks down in tears. The girls sense the depth of his loss, sadness, and pain. For Weiss, a singer attuned to the power of words and melodies, she absorbs the raw emotion and beauty woven into his unspoken lyrics.

After Daniel finishes singing, an officer breaks the soldiers' trances and orders them to move to the trenches for the battle.

Moving forward in the middle of what is called "No Man's Land," a battlefield filled with explosive potholes damaging the land and fallen dead soldiers of the British and Germans.

We see the British charging towards the Germans' trenches; only a few survive the machine gun. The British soldiers continue in waves after waves. The seventh wave is Daniel's as he is getting ready along with the rest of the company, loading their rifles, attaching their bayonets, and readying grenades.

The officer looks at his watch and blows the whistle, a roaring thunder of men yelling. As they reached up the ladders, some were instantly killed, but most, along with Daniel, made it over.

The girls followed Daniel, following his every move, cover to cover. shooting his rifle, not sure if his bullets made their mark but he keeps shooting.

Daniel moves and runs to cover and as he is in the open, a whistle could be heard and boom. The girls jump for cover and see a body launch in the air and drop back down. The girls gasp in horror seeing Daniel.

Daniel has no clue what happened. He tries to get up but stumbles a few times; Daniel can't see out of his right eye. He was dazed and heard ringing in both ears. Grab his head with his left hand, but he couldn't feel his right as he looked, and there he had no lower arm or hand. He sees his arm on the ground, blood leaking out, and feels his right eye with his left, and he has no right eye.

Any man would scream at the loss of missing arms and legs, except for Daniel; he is always calm and in control of his pain. Although Daniel is left in shell shock.

Daniel stumbles and aimlessly moves disorientedly; he hears yelling but then a bullet goes through his chest, and he grunts out of pain. RWBY gasps in horror.

Blake: NO!!!!

Bullets rip through Daniel, and he falls to the ground. Daniel coughs blood up, dripping down his cheek; he looks up at the sky, the bright blue with spots of clouds and sees how peaceful it is up there. He smiles as the life leaves his eyes as he dies as he joins the rest of the dead of No Man's Land.
