Me, this girl-not-girl
Will not respond with a timid laugh
And a curtesy
when you ask
Who I am.
I won't give you my life story.
Or preach to you how
There are poems inside of me that
Paper cannot handle.
Instead I will remind you
the color
Of a sunset on the ocean in late summer
or the
quiet sound of Palm leaves in the breeze
Or the
sight of someone who doesn't smile
Looking at a bird with contentment.

The emotions
That is what I am.
Me, this girl-not-girl

Telling me you know
Me
Is arrogant.
Because you touched me,
you think you know me;
You call me a star
But has anyone ever known a star?
I am not just a star.
I have galaxies inside my head.
Do not reduce me to
The confines of your universe
When I am all my own
