Some fumble for words
When tasked with comparing a lover's brown eyes
To something other than chocolate,
Or the earth.
I understand their plight, though not because I
Can only see pools of melting chocolate in your
Irises,
But because the only things that come to mind
When gazing into them are
Intangible.
To me, the color of your eyes is warm,
Safe,
Home to the love you give to me.
And when you tell me that it is mine
Before anyone else's
I cannot describe how that feels either
Except to say that I hope my eyes
Tell you I love you right back,
I hope you know that they are the color of
Yours
Reflecting back
Because you are all I see.
