You can't keep kissing strangers
And pretending that it's
Her.
I tell you this
On a Saturday night
When you've been drinking.
You won't remember my words,
So I tell you
That I will be here
When you wake up.
When your hands wrap around me
In those fleeting moments
Of forgetfulness
And you think you are waking up next to
Her.
But you always pull away,
Footsteps fading as you leave
Without turning back.
I tell you I know you only stay with me
When you've been drinking
Because you pretend I am
Her.
Why can I only seem to be honest when you're drunk?
Why can i not tell you that you don't get to break hearts
Like discarded beer bottles on the
Sidewalk
At 2am on a Saturday
Unless you have been drinking?
You won't remember my words,
So I tell you that
You are made of fire and electricity and
just because you can
Doesn't mean you have permission to
Love with reckless abandon,
Burn down forests and old homes
Just to scatter the ashes in the sea
On the beach
Where you first laid eyes on
Her.
And I left you this note
When you were passed out on my bed
Just to tell you I understand how you miss
Her.
You miss
Her
Like I miss
You.
But I always wore her perfume
Because I was pretending too
Pretending I was
Her
So that I could feel your love
Even if it's only on drunken Saturday nights
