Lucy POV:

When I wake up the next morning Y/n is still asleep betweet us with her tiny hand wrapped tightly around my shirt like she's scared I'll disappear if she lets go. After what happened last night neither Keira or I wanted her to sleep alone so we let her sleep in our bed with us. I carefully brush the hair out of Y/n's face.

Lucy: She looks so exhausted.

Keira: Yeah we had a tough day yesterday and she probaply didn't sleep a lot before we woke her up from her nightmare.

For a moment we both just watch her sleep peacefully. It's probaply one of the only times she ever looks completely relaxed. No fear. No panic. No overthinking. Just our little girl sleeping safely. Which is why it hurt even more to see her during that nightmare yesterday.

Suddenly Y/n shifts slightly in her sleep before slowly opening her eyes. The second she notices us beside her her body relaxes again and she snuggles further into me.

Y/n: Mommy?

I smile softly at her and kiss her forehead.

Lucy: Morning Sweetheart

Then Y/n turns to look at Keira.

Y/n: Mamma stayed?

Keira: Of course I stayed baby.

She blinks a few times like she's trying to make sure we're real before finally asking.

Y/n: Was yesterday real?

Lucy: Which part Sweetheart?

Y/n: Me acting like a baby

Keira: Baby look at me, we talked about this ok. What did we say?

Y/n: It's nothing bad just my mind protecting me and you're proud of me

Lucy: Exactly

Y/n: But normal big kids don't act like me

Lucy: Come here

I pull her back into my arms tightly and rub her arm while explaining it to her.

Lucy: Maybe not all of them but alot of people react to trauma differently and not every kid has went through the same trauma as you babygirl.

Keira: Yeah and like we said it's just your brains way of protecting you.

Y/n: So my brain isn't broken?

Lucy: No darling! Not at all it's just trying very hard to keep you safe that's all.

For a second her eyes water again but this time she doesn't cry she just cuddles more into us both to calm herself down before even starting to cry. I kiss her forehead.

Keira: We're really proud of you baby.

Y/n immediately hides her face further against my chest to which I chuckle softly.

Lucy: Is someone getting shy now?

She pushes my face away from her direction not liking the comment I made but this embarrassed gesture finally gets a real smile out of both me and Keira. Thank god. After everything recently we desperatley needed one normal moment.

Lucy: How about Pancakes today hm?

With me saying that Y/n immediately peeks up again.

Y/n: Chocolate chip?

Lucy: Obviously

Y/n throws herself into my arms and holds on tight like she hasn't seen me in two weeks.
