Chapter 3

Once I returned to the room, I saw a group of girls huddled in a circle whispering. What were they talking about? Was it me? Did I do something wrong? Maybe they're gonna tell king John and queen Anna I was spying on the prince. I didn't mean to. Plus how would they know anyway? Maybe they were spying on me! I slowly walked over to them and they all stared at me.

"What's going on?", I asked.

"We were just talking about how there's gonna be ball next week", a red haired girl replied.

"A ball?", I asked in confusion.

"Yeah. But we can't enjoy it. We'll be working through all of it", a blonde haired girl's replied.

So we can go but we'll be working the entire thing? This is awful. I went and sat on the bed then a guard came in.

"Isabel, the king and queen have requested you presence in the throne room", he said.

I got up and followed the guard down the hall, past many doors and down another hall. We stopped at a set of double doors and the guard opened it for me. I looked inside and it was just as I remembered it. The king and queen were sitting on their thrones. The king held a piece of paper and looked at me.

"Ah Isabel. Thank you for coming so quickly. I was wondering how would like to test something for me?", he asked.

"Don't worry dear. It's not anything deadly or anything", the queen said.

"We would like to test something out with you. You're new to the castle so starting tomorrow, you will be a "pet". You will be assigned to my son and he will be notified as well", the king said.

"So I will be like a slave to him?", I asked.

"Not a slave. More like a companion to him", the queen said.

"This is just temporary right?", I asked.

"Just until the ball at least", the king replied.

"Okay. I can do that", I said.

"Good good. You start tomorrow. Now run along back to your friends", the queen said.

I bowed and walked out the room trying to remember which way I came from. Once I turned around the corner I saw Ashley coming my way.

"Ashley thank goodness I found you. Which way to the room?", I asked.

"Down this hall and it's the first door to the left", she replied.

"Thanks", I said.

I walked around the corner and saw a door to my left. I opened the door and saw the rest of the girls sitting on their beds talking. They were all dressed in their nightgowns and had their hair tied up in ponytails or buns. I went to my bed and put my nightgown on and let my hair fall lose. I slipped under the covers and let the darkness take me under.
