I walked for what felt like hours. I couldn't be far from home could I? I kept walking until I was on the outskirts of town sat down in the grass. I looked at the direction I was going and realized that I still had a long way to go. I knew the town was this far but I had no idea it was gonna take this long. I got up and began walking once again. My legs were in so much pain that and I didn't feel like taking another step. Once I reached the town I was greeted by the loud noises and strange smells. Everyone gave me weird looks like I was some fancy person or something. I guess it's because I just came from the palace and I'm wearing a maid's outfit. I assume that they wouldn't expect someone so young to work on the palace and be able to leave without being escorted by a guards. I walked past stands and carts and finally reached my house. It looked the same. Just like I left it. Old and broken down. I opened the door and the smell of lilacs and honey was spread across the air. It smelled like my mother's perfume. She must be in the back.
"Mom!", I yelled.
No one responded. I walked to the back of the house and saw a figure on the mattress sleeping. She's always sleeping. I didn't bother waking her up. I quietly walked to the other side of the mattress and saw that he face was under the cover. I smiled at the sight of this and walked back to the front. The door flung open and no one was there. Just the wind. It's always the wind. I turned the tv on and looked around the house. It felt good to be home.
