Chapter 18

When I woke up the next morning, I felt like my whole universe was upside down. Like everything wasn't right. I looked around and everything seemed okay. I looked at Cole and he was still sleeping. He began to toss and turn and then turned to face me with his eyes closed. He looked cute when he was sleeping. I laid back down and pulled the covers on top of me.

"I see your awake", Cole said.

"You weren't even sleeping were you?", I asked.

"I was then woke up", he replied.

"No you were definitely awake", I said.

"Believe what you want", he said.

"Can we finish our conversation?", I asked.

"Isabel for the last time I'm not going to turn you", he replied.

"You should at least consider it", I said.

"How about we focus on the task at hand?", he asked.

"I know the demon thing and your father not liking me", I replied.

" Let's worry about the demon first", he said.

I stayed silent for a moment thinking about what we could do about this demon thing.

"I have an idea but it's risky", he said.

"Okay hit me", I said.

"Well we when you go to sleep tonight, I can come in the dream and have you help me fight the demon thing", he said.

"What if I get hurt?", I asked.

"Relax it's only in your dream", he replied.

"I've heard that what happens to you in your dreams actually happens in real life", I said.

"It's just a myth. That isn't true", he said.

"It could be", I whispered to myself.

Later that evening I was walking around the castle with Carly who is a maid here.

"Okay Carly so you have no idea what home school is like?", I asked.

"No. I've only gone to public school and a private school once", she replied.

"Well I doubt public school is better", I said.

Carly began laughing and then stopped. Her face turned pale as a ghost. Was there something or someone behind me. I turned around and saw it was Cole.

"Isabel. I need to see you in the room", he said.

"Okay", I simply responded.

He looked at Carly and his eyes turned red then back to normal. I felt an awkward vibe between them. Did something happen in the past or something? If something did, was it bad?

"I have to go. We'll catch up later", I said.

I followed Cole to the room and sat on the bed.

"Why did I feel that awkward vibe between you and Carly?", I asked.

"Believe it or not, Carly is a witch. Many years ago she tried to put all the vampires in existence in a prison. Like a prison that we can't escape from. It was like a cave with a magical invisible barrier that supernatural beings can't escape from", he replied.

"So she has a wand and flies a on broomsticks?", I asked.

"No. That's just a stereotype. She can castle spells but that's about it", he replied.

"So do you have a problem with her or something?", I asked.

"Yes and no", he replied.

"Yes and no?", I asked.

"Well her kind wanted to start a war with us vampires. Long ago before you were born, her grandmother tried to start a fight with my family. She was mad because my kind had gotten out of control with our feeding and lots of people were going missing. She decided to strike when we didn't expect it. Luckily for us, we had our armies ready at all times. We tried to reason with her but she wouldn't budge. So after a while, she finally came to her senses because she was about to have a baby and she was getting tired. Her baby carried on her scheme. Her daughter failed so many times. Then she had a child so we had to put a stop to it. If all these witches kept trying to take us down, we wouldn't be alive. So we forced any living witch to work in the castle", he explained.

"So is at least like almost half the staff is made up of witches?", I asked.

"No. There's only three. Samantha, Caitlin and Carly", he replied.

"So they have their powers?", I asked.

"I don't know. But anyways I need to talk to you", he said.

"Is it bad?", I asked.

"No. I found out that Serena does have a spell to protect you from the demon in your dreams. It's really simple and will protect you for a whole day", he explained.

"What do I have to do?", I asked.

"You don't have to do anything"he replied.

"I don't understand", I said.

"All you have to do is stand there and let me and Serena do the rest", he said.

"So you expect me to sit here and do absolutely nothing?", I asked.

"I don't want you getting hurt", he replied.

I walked towards the spot he was standing in. I stood on my toes to reach his height. I was a little shorter than him.

"I know I can do this", I said.

"I can't have you getting hurt. If you do I don't know what I'll do", he said.

"Cole I know I can do this", I said.

"Isabel. I can't risk the chances of you getting hurt", he said.

"I won't", I said.

I pulled him into a gentle kiss and pulled away. I stared deep in his eyes begging for him to let me help. I feel like he wants to do everything solo. Like I can't help with anything. I know he wants to protect me but I need to be able to fight my own battles.

"Isabel, I have a negation", he said.

"What would that be?", I asked.

"If you can prove to me that you can help fight this demon and prove to my dad that we belong together, I'll turn you", he said.

"That's not good enough. You should turn me because you love me", I said.

"It doesn't work that way", he said.

"Yes it does", I said.

"I'll change you under those circumstances", he said.

"If I do, you will have no choice cause you agreed to this", I said.

"I know. We should get some rest. It's late and you look tired", he said.

I was tired from the day I had.

I climbed in bed and pulled the covers over me. I felt Cole pulled me close to him and wrap his arms around me. He gave me a light kiss on my forehead.

"Goodnight Isabel. I love you will never let anything happen to you", he said

"I love you too", I said.

My eyes got heavy and I let the darkness overwhelm me.
