Chapter 4

When I woke up the next morning, I was so mad. I had to be the prince's "companion" starting today. This is gonna suck. Literally. I looked around the room and saw Ashley on her bed brushing her hair. I climbed out of bed and changed into my uniform. I put my hair in a bun and put on my shoes and grade out the door. No one bothered to ask me where I was going which was odd. Maybe they already know and that's why Ashley was the first one up. All the other girls must know they weren't assigned to anyone so they could sleep in. I quietly walked to the prince's room trying not to disturb anyone. Once I approached the room, I gathered up all my courage and knocked. After a few seconds Cole was standing in the doorway with his boxers on. His hair was in his face.

"What?", he asked.

"The king requested that I come here to start the experiment", I replied.

He groaned and looked in the room. He turned his attention back to me and his eyes turned black. This must not be good.

"Alright. You can sit on the couch", he said.

I entered the room and it wasn't like I expected. It was the exact opposite. His bed was messy, stuff all over the floor, the girls from yesterday were spread out on the bed, the couch was decent enough for me to sit on and the windows are messy. Don't the maids ever come in here and clean? I went and sat on the couch while Cole went to the closet and came out with a pair of denim jeans and a light blue button up shirt. He left his hair the way it was and looked at me.

"I have to go talk to my father. Stay here and if any of the girls wake up, don't bother them. If they ask you where I went tell them I went out for a little while and they're free to go home. If anyone knocks, don't answer. Understood?", he asked.

"Yes your highness", I replied.

He put on his shoes and walked out the room. So I have to stay here? What am I supposed to do while he's gone? Well, I guess I could clean up a little bit. But I'll wait until the girls wake up. To my surprise, minutes later they both woke up and left. Guess I can start cleaning now. I picked up everything off the floor and made a pile of everything that needs to be washed, throw away or put back in the closet. Then I took a paper towel from the bathroom, ran some water on it and cleaned all the dust off everything and made the bed. About an hour later, I had cleaned half the room. Cole came back ten minutes later and he looked very surprised. I guess he's never seen his room this clean before or no one has had the guts to clean it. He laid on the bed stared at the ceiling.

"Everything okay your highness?", I asked.

"Don't speak", he ordered.

Geez. Temper much? I knew he was kinda mean but this is how he treats his staff? Like crap? I'm not liking this whole companionship thing one bit.

"I'm sorry. I had a rough day", he said.

"Do you wanna talk about it?", I asked.

"My father wants me to marry some princess I never met before. He says she isn't a vampire so it really doesn't matter. He just wants me to be eligible to heir the throne when I get to that age. My mother disagreed with him as usual but he won't hear of it. So now I'm stuck in this situation", he replied.

"Well you could try reasoning with him", I suggested.

"Like what?", he asked.

"If you can't find that special someone by the end of this month which is in three and a half weeks then they can plan the arranged marriage", I replied.

"You know, that sounds like a good idea", he said running out the door.

"You're welcome", I said to no one.

I got up and began cleaning again. He won't be back for a few more minutes so I'm gonna clean up as much as I can now. Surprisingly, I finished before he came back. He didn't say anything when he came in. Instead, he came in and punched a hole in a pillow. Dang. Rude much? He tossed the pillow out the window and fell in the bed with his chest facing the ceiling. I'm assuming that my idea wasn't good enough for the king. Well, the way he came in, I'm guessing it didn't go well and he didn't like the idea. I slowly walked over to the bed and prayed he wouldn't do anything he would regret. Like hurting me in anyway. After a few seconds, I finally had the courage to speak.

"Everything okay?", I asked.

"My dad liked the idea but he suggested that the ball we're holding will be for me to find someone that means something to me", he replied.

"Well, at least he's giving you some time", I said.

"Just not enough time", he said.

"At least it's something", I said.

"I'm going on a walk. Come with me", he said.

I hope he means outside the castle grounds. I haven't see daylight in like 2 or 3 days if not longer. He led me out the room and down multiple halls, doors and stairs. We approached a door and the guards opened it. On the other side was a gorgeous scenery. It felt like I was at home again. But I knew in reality I wasn't.

"Tell me about yourself. I don't really know much about you except that you work here", he said.

"There's not much to tell", I said.

"Okay. Well name one fact that no one knows about", he said.

"Well, I secretly go to my friend's house when my mom thinks I'm at the public library", I said.

"So you have a bad side?", he asked.

"Of course not", I replied.

"Then why did you go to your friend's house instead of the library?", he asked.

"I needed an excuse. She didn't think they were a good influence on me", I replied.

"Still though, you have a dark side", he said.

"If you say so", I said.

We walked down a long path and I looked at all the trees we passed and the sky was a beautiful blue and everything just looked so beautiful.

"Can I ask you something?", I asked.

"Sure", he replied.

"Do you like being a vampire?", I asked.

"It has it's ups and downs", he replied.

"What about being a prince?", I asked.

"Same. Has it's ups and downs", he replied.

"You've got to be kidding. Being royalty would be awesome. You get what you what whenever you want. You live in a giant castle. You're living my dream life", I said.

"Not really. You have to attend a lot of meetings and balls", he said.

"Well either way, being royalty is great", I said.

We kept walking and we got to a point where we started holding hands. I blushed at the sight of this. I didn't know if this meant something but I believe it does
