Chapter 10

Once we got back to the castle, I stepped out with Cole beside me. The guards opened the door and we walked inside and to the throne room. We were awaited by Cole's parents. They both gave us a warm welcoming smile.

"Mother, father. I have something to tell you", Cole began.

"Go ahead dear. You can tell us anything", the queen said.

"Well, as you know, Isabel and I have gotten close. Like really close", he said.

"What do you mean?", the king said.

"Isabel and I are together", Cole replied.

"This is some sort of joke. You're not together", the king said.

"Honey. I think he's serious", the queen said.

The king stopped laughing immediately as soon as those words sunk in. I had a fear that he was going to get mad. Or worse. Kill me.

"I see. You have an affair with my son. How long has this been going on?", the king asked.

"Just a couple days", I replied.

"And you really love her?", the king asked.

"Yes I do", Cole replied.

"Well then you can see each other before I send her away for good", the king said.

"What?", Cole asked.

"Son. You're royalty and she's a human. A peasant. You need to stick with royalty. Peasants stick with peasants. It's just the way it works", the king said.

"But father it's not a rule", Cole said.

"Cole it's tradition. You're next in line for the throne and she will only hold you back", the king said.

"Sweetheart. Let them be. Do you not see how much they love each other?", the queen asked.

"Honey. You know I'm right. Guards. Take her away", the king said.

"What? No", Cole said.

Two guards were by my side in seconds and were dragging me by my arms. I tried fighting them but it was useless. They're used to people fighting to be free from their clutches. I kicked and screamed but it was useless. Cole tried to run after me but I was gone before he could do anything. I was thrown into a cell in the basement under the castle. When the guard locked the door, Cole came rushing in and looked at me.

"Cole you have to get me out of here", I cried.

"I'll try my best", he said.

He grabbed onto the bars and pulled them but they didn't move. He tried again and still nothing. He jerked back like something happened.

"It's no use. It's vampire proof", he said.

"You have to tell your father that he can't send me away", I said.

"Isabel I'll try my best but once my father has come to a decision, there is no changing his mind. I assure you that my mother and I will do our best to get you out", he said.

"Cole don't leave me", I cried.

"I have to. I need to go talk to my father. I promise I'll be back", he said.

He walked away from the cell and I sat on the floor and cried.
