Chapter 22

Isabel's POV

I saw nothing but darkness. It overwhelmed me. I felt like crying but even if I did, no one would hear me. There was no use to cry if no one could hear you. I felt like I was flying and it turns out I was. I was ten feet off the ground. In reality, I was awake. I could see everything. I sat up and looked around me. I didn't see Cole anywhere. I screamed softly so he could hear me. He came rushing in the room and stood frozen in place. He must not believe that I was fully recovered. He came and sat next to me. He held my face in his hands. He looked at me and put his lips against mine. I missed this feeling so much. I pulled away and looked at him.

"I missed you", I said.

""I missed you too", he said.

"What are we gonna tell your father?", I asked.

"What do you mean?", he asked

"I mean are you going to tell him that we are together and he can't do anything about it?", I asked.

"I will later. Right now you need to get some rest. I need you to be healthy when we go and tell him. I don't know what he'll do if your not able to do anything", he said.

"Cole he won't do anything. For all we know he could just throw me in the dungeon for the rest of my life", I said.

"I still want you to be ready", he said.

I giggled at that. What could I a defenseless human do to a powerful vampire on top of that the king of vampires? Even if I was as strong I couldn't beat him. Even the most strongest vampires can't beat the king.

"Dont worry. We'll figure something out", he said.

"No", I said.

"What do you mean?", he asked.

"Cole no matter what we do. I'll be punished or banned from the kingdom one way or another", I replied.

"That's not true. We will find a way", he said.

"Cole just forget it. It's just not meant to be", I said.

"I'll come with you", he said.

"Cole. No you can't", I said.

"Isabel I'm coming. There's nothing you can do to stop me", he said.

"What are you gonna tell your parents?", I asked.

"They won't know. We leave tonight. When everyone goes to sleep we are leaving", he said.

I didn't try to argue with him. If I did, I knew I would loose. I laid under the covers and stared at the ceiling. I watched Cole pack two duffle bags and put them in the corner of the room. I was picked up out the bed and set on my feet in the middle of the floor. I watched Cole make the bed and tidy up the room. He put the bags under the bed and looked around the room. I went and laid on the bed watching him run around the room getting the stuff we need for tonight.

"Cole", I said.

"Yeah", he responded.

"Why do you want to come with me?", I asked.

"To be there with you. I want to be there to protect you", he replied.

"But I don't want you to come with me. You still have time before you rule the kingdom. You can't give it all up", I said.

"I will give up my whole existence for you", he said.

"I can't let you do that", I said.

"Isabel I'm trying to help you out", he said.

"I know but honestly though, I'll be fine", I said.

"Just let me be there", he said.

I had no choice but to let him. He would stop at nothing until I'm perfectly safe. I felt him wrap his arms around me and kiss me on my forehead. I pulled him towards me and pressed my lips against his. I felt him run his hands through my hair. He moved away and looked into my eyes.

"I will always love you", he said.

Later that evening when everyone was asleep, we snuck out the castle. I still can't believe that he was giving everything up just to be with me. We walked for what seemed like hours until we got to the town. Same people with their same routine. Everyone gasped and stared mainly at Cole. We walked around and found my house. It sounded and looked empty. Cole stared and then looked at me.

"Someone's been here", he said.

"What are you talking about?", I asked.

"Someone's been killed. It wasn't a natural death. Someone's been killed by a supernatural being", he replied.

I pushed the door open and no one was here. Cole was right. It did smell like death. I looked around for my mother and she was in her room. Her head decapitated from her body. Her body was pale and blood covered the bed. I fell to my knees and cried. I felt Cole wrap his arms around me to comfort me. I found a note on the pillow and it wasn't written on my mother's handwriting.

"Dear finder,

If you're wondering what happened let me fill you in. I was searching for the prince and came upon this woman who was the mother to the prince's slave. If you're the daughter, congratulations. You've led me to you and your little prince. I will hunt you down and make sure your prince feels the same pain I felt when he killed my wife".

"What does it say?", Cole asked.

I gave him the note and waited for him to say something. He never did.

"Let's go", he said.

"Where are we going?", I asked.

"We're getting a room for the night. In the morning we will find the man who killed your mother", he said.

"How many people have you killed in your existence?", I asked.

"Five", he replied.

We walked out the door and down a super long path. We walked a long time and finally reached the hotel. We got the room key and the room for free cause of me being with royalty. We walked upstairs and down the hall. We reached the room and walked inside. It didn't surprise me that it was worn down and looked like a dump. I fell on the bed feeling relieved to be in bed. I slipped under the covers and got comfortable.

"What are we gonna do?", I asked.

"I don't know"he replied.

"It feels like the world is just going to throw obstacles at us. It's never gonna end is it?", I asked.

"It will. I promise it will get better. Now get some rest", he said.

"I love you", I said.

"I love you too", he said.

I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
