Chapter 14

The next day when I woke up, I forgot where I was. I looked around the room and realized that I was back at the castle in Coles's room. I sighed a breath of relief. I got out of bed and looked out the window. People were walking around, carrying baskets and begging for food.

"How long have you been awake?", Cole asked.

"I just woke up", I replied.

He gave me a hug and kiss and walked away. I looked at the village again and saw the same thing I saw a few seconds ago. I have to stay here. If I don't, I won't be safe. If I go back, that man from my dream will come back.

"Isabel. Are you okay?", Cole asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Just got lost in thought", I replied.

"Do you wanna tell me about it?", he asked.

"Not really", I replied.

"Come on. I wanna know what's going on in that head of yours", he said.

I walked over to the bed and sat in the middle and sighed.

"When I left and I went to sleep, I had a dream that I was back here. I was in the bed and we were talking. You had this evil smile on your face and I instantly knew it wasn't you. The you that I know. He told me I should come back so you can protect me", I explained.

"So it was me but it wasn't really me?", he asked.

"Yeah. So I came back", I replied.

"Well don't worry. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you", he said.

"That's what you said last time", I said.

"Well I didn't want you to come with me me", he said.

"So what do you think it was?", he asked.

"I don't know. Maybe it was a demon", he replied.

"A demon?", I asked.

"Yes. Demons can control your dreams. High demons have the ability to control your dreams but you have to be human in order for it to work. No one but a royal member of the family can defeat them. If they're not stopped within two weeks, the human dies", he replied.

"But I don't know who this demon that's controlling my dream is", I said.

"I'll be able to figure it out", he said.

"How?", I asked.

"When you go to sleep I'll be awake", he replied.

"That's something that I don't want you doing", I said.

"Well I need to be awake to protect you", he said.

"I know but isn't there something else you can do?", I asked.

"Isabel if you want to fight this thing then I have to do what I have to do", he replied.

"Cole I don't want you doing anything that will not let you sleep. I don't want you to worry about me", I said.

"Isabel it is my job to make sure that you're safe", he said.

"Where were you when I was being killed?", I mumbled.

"What was that?", he asked.

"Nothing", I replied.

"Okay well I need to go out for a little bit. Come on", he said.

"Where are we going?", I asked.

"Just up the road to the lake", he replied.

"Why do you need to go to a lake?", I asked.

"Just so I can get something", he replied.

I followed him down the hall and through multiple doors. I had to run to catch up with him and then slowly jogged when I caught up to him. We walked up to a crystal blue lake and it looked like it was full of sparkles. I looked down into it and saw nothing.

"Just wait", he said.

I waited for what seemed like forever and then the water started to bubble and steam up. Once it all cleared, a girl with long flowing blonde hair, light tan skin, blue eyes and a necklace with a little music note on it appeared.

"Hello Cole. So wonderful to see you again", the girl said.

" Serena. I need a favor", he a said.

"What can I do for you?", she asked.

"I need a protection spell", Cole replied.

"Hm. I don't know if I should give you one. Sirens are very protective of spells and especially the ones that help people. Why should I give you one?", she asked.

"Well I'm the prince and I command you to give me one", he replied.

"Of the kingdom of Aden while I live underwater in the kingdom of Asil", Serena said.

"Serena I need this spell to protect my love Isabel", he said.

"Is she standing behind this human cause royalty should stick with royalty and she doesn't look like royalty to me", she said.

"I'll have you know that I'm the Isabel he's talking about", I said.

"Wow Cole. You really haven't changed", she said.

"Serena are you going to give me the spell or not?", he asked.

"I don't know. Why should I", she asked.

"Serena what if you needed to protect the ones you love? Would you do it?", he asked.

"Yeah but thanks to you and your stupid army, I have no one that loves me", she replied.

"Serena give me the spell", Cole demanded.

"No. If you really want it, you'll have to come get it", she said.

She ducked under the water and never came back up. I guess she left. Did Cole really kill her family and why? Why am I just learning this stuff now? Most importantly, was Cole really that cruel?
