(Richard POV)
My head was killing me that morning. I had a tough night with my cousins and some of my closest friends. We drank too much, I don't even remember about coming home. I don't even know if I took a shower! The reason why we drank so much? We were celebrating. I, personally, was celebrating my new job, my cousins were celebrating something too (I'm afraid I don't remember as well). I don't drink like this usually, but yesterday was massive.
-Ah... - I tried to get out of bed, but it was hard. My brain was almost blown out and I needed to really solve this quickly. Glad it's Sunday, my first day on my new job was only on the next day, Monday.
-At least I got some time to hangover... -I said to myself, when I finally managed to get up. Everything was running in circles around me. I saw my clothes on the floor, next to my bathroom. I probably got a shower last night, but I guess it would be better if I took another one. Soon as I got under the hot water I instantly felt better. My muscles felt free and relaxed and my headache was fading slowly.
It didn't last longer than 10 minutes. I got out, made my breakfast, brushed my teeth and put some clean clothes. Just for the record, I live alone in a flat, in London. I was unemployed for not more than 5 months, which was not bad at all. I used to work in a public library, but I fired myself. That job was a total mess; the job itself was useless, the payment was terrible, my boss was even worse... But things were about to get better. Since I'm a writer, I did a job interview for The Independent and I got the place! Of course I still had a lot to learn until my texts are finally ready to be launched in the newspaper, but I was more than happy.
-Good morning! -the mailman said when I closed the front door behind me.
-Good morning, have a good day! -I said, giving him a handshake. I knew him since I moved to this flat. Nice guy. I made my way to my car and when I was finally inside it, I called one of my cousins, Matt.
-Good morning sleeping beauty! -he said with a silly voice.
-Good morning bastard. How are you feeling? Better than me, I hope.
-Man, I'm terrible... My wife almost kicked my ass out of the house when I got here last night!
-Hahaha, well deserved... But seriously, we need to be careful with alcohol.
-Yeah man, he's a bad friend! What are you up to today?
-Nothing special. Need to buy some food and some new ties.
-Oh, the princess needs to be pretty for her first day in the new job!
-Shut up... Well, I just called to know if you were ok.
-Thanks man! I already spoke with Bryan, he's not better than us either.
-But your brother is a horse when It comes to drinking!
-Hell yeah he is! Imma let you go then, have a good day.
-Thanks, you too! - I hung up. I started laughing about my cousins. We are very close, since we were kids we used to play together every weekend in our countryside house. Matt was married already, he has a little boy, my nephew Chris. Bryan is still single, just like me. I was driving my way to the supermarket when I saw a small cat on the side of the road, next to the sidewalk. I instantly pulled over and left the car. He was not bigger than my hand and he looked starved and extremely cold.
-Hey... Hey little guy, what are you doing here? -I said almost in a whisper. He looked at me and meowed. My heart melted and I knew I couldn't just leave him there. I held him up next to my belly and got back inside my car. Carefully, I put him on the seat next to me and he just stayed there, staring at me. Black and white fur, blue eyes. I started driving and 2 minutes later I was in the supermarket. I made my way in and I bought a blanket, cat shampoo with anti parasites, baby cat food (I have two adult cats at home, Theodor and Mirtle, so I bought a small box of baby cat food) and some medicine. I also bought some things I needed for myself and soon as I was ready I got back to my car. I put the blanket around the cat and, with my hand in a shell form, I dropped some food on it. He ate everything in seconds!
-Poor you... What should I call you? -I said, smiling at him. He looked at me and meowed again. I dropped some more food in my hand and he ate everything till the last piece.
-Kasimir. Welcome to my car, I'm Richard and I'm going to take good care of you. Now, let's go home and meet your brothers? -Yeah, I have a strange thing about cats. I talk to them as If they were understanding what I was saying. I still had to come back to the shopping center and buy fresh and new clothes for my job, but I had to take care of Kasimir first.
When I got home, I ran to the bathroom and filled my bathtub with warm water. Cats hate water, but it's ok to give them one when they are babies. And especially in this case, Kasimir was literally dying for a bath. I washed him carefully with the shampoo and he didn't stop crying for one second. Poor him, he was hating it. When I finished, I took a towel and held him in my chest while I was rubbing his fur, making sure it was getting dry
-Alright little boy. It's time to meet your brothers and your new home. - I put him down on the floor and my two other cats came from. They were looking at me like: "What the hell is this?! What did you do?!" I left them alone so I could put all the groceries in the kitchen. When I came back they were all playing together. They were biting, chasing, hiding... I laughed at how quickly Theodor and Mirtle liked baby Kasimir
Ileft home again and made my way to the shopping center. My life was about tochange. I couldn't wait to start my new job tomorrow!
