(Richard's POV)

We arrived at home around 4 in the morning. We couldn't stay much longer in the party because Olivia was still recovering from the stomach infection, she was also pregnant and I was dead tired. So we just came home, ate something and made our buts to bed. Two days later we would be coming back to work, so I had to get some things ready for it. My mind wasn't fully prepared, because I had a great time with Olivia at home... I wish it could be like this everyday, but it couldn't.

-First day of work. How happy I am. -she said, with a grumpy face and looking to the calendar. It was January third, our first day of work, after Christmas vacations. I laughed and hugged her back. I put her hair to the side and kissed her neck softly, smelling her sweet fragrance.

-I know it's hard Livy, but it's just today. Tomorrow we will be back on track with no problem. -I said, trying to cheer her up. She just nodded. We packed our things and made our way to the office.

-How was your night? I forgot to ask. -I said, touching her leg above the dark blue jeans. She sighed and looked down.

-I woke up in the middle of the night with a lot of pain. I came down and made some tea, but it didn't work. Until now, I still feel pain, but I don't know what to do. You know I can't take medicine without doctor's orders... -she said, looking sad. I felt like a whole was growing in my heart. I promised to take care of her and now she's in pain and I didn't even notice.

-I'm so sorry, Livy. I haven't noticed and I feel horrible for it. Do you want me to take you to the hospital? We don't have to go to work now, Dr. Evans will understand. -I said, touching her chin while driving. She grabbed my hand and kissed my fingers softly, leaving bits of her dark red lipstick.

-It's ok, baby. I'll be alright, I just need to start working and it'll distract me. I promise I'll be fine, don't worry. -she said, smiling at me. I knew she was worried. She had already lost two babies in the past and she was scared that this pain could mean something. I tried not to get worried, but It was stronger than me.

It was great to be back in the office. My desk, my computer, my stick yellow papers. Everything was in the right place and I was super excited. It seemed like it was my first day ever, I felt like I was living it all over again. I opened my files and start writing the news about the New Year celebration, some photos of the fireworks and stuff. I was really happy to see everyone being nice with me, after all that happened with Amanda. I wondered about her. I knew I shouldn't be worried about her, but I was a bit. Anyway, the past stays where it should be. Ian and I were having a great fun with writing news together, like the old times.

-It looks like it's been centuries! -he said, while I drank my cup of hot coffee.

-Indeed. It feels good to be back, you know? -I said, smiling at him.

-I know. How's Olivia? -he asked. He was the only one that knew about her pregnancy. We both agreed that Ian, as a close friend, should know.

-She's fine. She's worried, you know? -I said, almost in a whisper. I felt a pain in my heart. I didn't know exactly how to help her with that situation.

-I understand, but you can't be afraid. You have to show her confidence and hope. And you're very good with that, believe me. -he said, making me laugh.

-I wasn't with her when... When she lost the babies. I don't really know if I'm dealing right with this. -I said, looking at him.

-You weren't. But I was. I saw how happy she was when she was pregnant from Christopher. Everyone offering presents, touching her belly. Her smile was different from now, you know? It was something very pleasing to see... It's incredible how you can perfectly see how happy someone is, just by the eyes. -he said, smiling at me. His words broke my heart, in a way. I wish I had met her earlier. Even if I wasn't dating her, I could've helped her somehow.

-What should I do? -I asked.

-Make her remember that this is the present. The past is well far away and your time is now. For both of you. -he said, going back to his writing. I smiled to myself and turned around to my computer too.

-Thank you, Ian. I think I know what to do.

I left earlier for lunch time. I had to pick Olivia at the office so we could have lunch together, but I had to do something before. I went to the nearest shopping and looked for a baby store. I found one in the corner and stepped in. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled so sweet, but different. I started to look around and I was fascinated. All those baby clothes, organized from the smallest to the biggest, girls in one side, boys in another side of the store. Then, I saw something that popped out. I saw a piece of clothing that I don't really know the name, in tones of white and light green. It had some buttons in the front, with a beautiful baby elephant in white and blue. Above it said «Mommys's little peanut». My heart melted instantly and I imagined how it would be like to put that on my baby. I grabbed it and made my way to pay it.

-Good afternoon, sir. Is it a gift? -the young lady said, smiling.

-Hi. Yes, please. -I said, taking my wallet from my jacket pocket. She put it in a beautiful squared box full of hearts, cats, dogs and a lot of other animals, everything very childish and tender. I gave her the money and when she was making the payment, I asked.

-Don't mind the question, but what is this smell?

-Well, it's the smell of babies. -she said, smiling. I nodded and I felt my cheeks burning.

-You didn't know? -she asked, giving me the box.

-No, I... Well, I guess I was going to find out in some months. -I said, smiling back. She smiled from ear to ear.

-Congratulations! For you and your wife, I wish you all the best. -she said.

-Thank you! -I said, leaving the store. I went to my car, running and running, so I could pick Olivia in time. I was going to surprise her and I really hoped she would be happy. I felt so weird about buying baby clothes for the first time. It was like turning 6 years old and buying candy with my own money for the very first time in my childhood. But I was happy I chose something that could fit in a girl or a boy. Green is a happy colour, perfect for both. I couldn't wait to be a father, to hold my baby in my arms, feel him squeeze my finger with his tiny hands... Everything was like a dream that was slowly coming true.

NOTE: A boy or a girl? What do you think the baby will be? Let me know in the comments :D
