Friday finally came and everyone was excited about my welcoming party, if can even call it that. All I knew was we were supposed to meet in a restaurant, have dinner and then we decide which bar to go and have some drinks.
-Will Olivia be there? –I asked Ian in the elevator when we were going down to the parking.
-I don't know. Last year we welcomed a new employee too, but she didn't come. But you might be lucky. –he said, winking at me. I felt my cheeks burn a bit and I knew I was blushing like a teenager.
-Why you say that? –I asked him when we left the elevator, making our way to our cars.
-When you were talking with Evans today, she left her office and stared at you for some seconds. Then she left. –he said, already opening his car and throwing his bag in the backseat.
-Why would she look at me? I'm just one employer and I'm not interested in her. In fact, I barely know her and besides she is my boss.
-Not literally your boss, Richard. –he laughed.
-She's the boss's daughter, which makes her my boss. Now go away, we meet in the restaurant. –I wanted to run away from that conversation as fast as possible. I couldn't stop thinking about her anyway. I knew it was nothing more than a physical attraction and she would never fall for an employer of her business.
(Olivia POV)
-Sophie, do you have my dress with you? –I shouted from my closet while I was trying to fix my earring. It fell on the ground and one of its diamonds fell off. Sophie came inside the closet and left my dress on a hanger.
-Here it is... Are you sure you want to go alone? –she said, resting one hand on my shoulder. I sighed. Of course I didn't want to go alone, but I was just like that. I put my black tight dress on and my heels. My phone, my keys, my purse and I left. When I got inside the car the sun was setting, leaving London and saying goodbye to another long day of Autumn. I made my way to my destination. While I was driving some faded memories came to my mind. His smile, his voice. The way he used to look at me, completely in love with me and with our son in my belly. He loved it when he called me «Livy» from Olivia and I hated it. I shook my head and focused on the road in front of me. When I got there I parked my car and bought some flowers to the old woman in front of the big iron gate. White roses, always. I walked inside the small and peaceful cemetery and made my way to the last tree on the left corridor. Near it there were three graves.
-Hello, my dear Will. –I greeted my husband and kissed one of the white roses, resting it near his grave. William was my husband for almost 10 years of my life. He died with lung cancer three years ago. He was my light, my moon and my stars. He always fought against his disease and every time I was crying like a baby, he would hold my hand and tell me jokes so I could laugh. I will always be his «Livy». On the right side of his grave there were two more smaller graves.
-Hello, my loves. –I said, feeling tears falling over my chin. Those were my sons; Christopher and Mitchell. I got pregnant of Christopher on my honeymoon. Everything went well until the 6th month came. I had to deliver Chris or else he would die and I would too. He stayed at the hospital for two weeks. He lived, he breathed, he felt, he cried, he laughed... He just didn't survive. Some years later I got pregnant from Mitchell. It seemed I was born with a curse. Mitchell was also born on the 6th month of pregnancy and days after he died. Then my husband. Since then I live alone, just with my maid Sophie. I can't marry again and have children again because I am too afraid of the future. I know my children will die again and I will not be happy. I found my happiness on my own way and The Independent keeps me busy most of the time. However, it's impossible to forget about my family.
After some long minutes talking to them, I left the cemetery. Just in front of it there was a coffee shop. I looked at my watch and I saw that in half an hour I would have to be at the restaurant for Richard's welcoming party. So I crossed the street to have some coffee. But I was still recovering from talking to my sons and husband. I always feel very down after visiting them in the cemetery, who wouldn't. When I noticed, there was a loud horn of a car horn. I saw people passing by and screaming. I looked at my right side and saw a car coming towards me. I was about to join my family in heaven in that moment. Then, I felt two strong arms picking me up and taking me out of the road. Someone saved me. I tried to land still on the floor, but with my heels, it was impossible. I almost fell down, but those arms kept on holding me tight and I didn't fall. People were stoping around us and the driver that almost killed me left the car. I looked into the man that saved me and my heart stopped for some seconds. I met those blue eyes, at last.
-Mr.Armitage?! –my voice sounded really nervous and dumb. He looked at me and I finally could step on the ground without falling. Slowly he released his arms from me and he sighed.
-Miss Rogers, I'm glad you are ok. –he said. I was still in shock with all that. Then I saw the driver coming running towards me widened.
-Oh, Miss, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you coming! Are you hurt?! –he didn't even finish his sentence. Richard stepped forward and hit him on the nose.
-Miss Rogers, let me take you out of here. –he said. I had no other option than follow him. I couldn't speak, I couldn't think. All I know was that I got inside an unknown car and Richard was driving. Then, I passed out.
