Enjoy this one! (Please don't kill me...)
(Richard's POV)
There I was, lying down on the bed with my ear glued to my wife's belly while she slept calmly. I was so afraid to wake her up, but I couldn't lose that moment. I heard them moving, I felt their punches. Autumn and James Tyler were probably playing together or trying to wake Olivia up because they wanted to eat. Two precious cells growing, full of life and energy. My son and my daughter... I was enjoying that moment to the most and I couldn't contain my emotions. My hands followed each movement they made so I could feel each of them. It was weird to see her belly move that way, but it was something magical. The human body was the most perfect creation in history. While I was being taken to the heavens and beyong, I thanked God so much for that. I knew my babies were safe and healthy, so active and energetic. I rested my hand once more and I felt what looked like a kick. My heart jumped out of my mouth. I was so ready to be a dad, I counted every day and weak to hold them in my arms. With that strong kick, Olivia started to wake up slowly. I stepped back a bit and rested my hand on her hair, petting her slowly.
-What's wrong with these kids today? They are punching really hard... -she whispered, half sleep. I giggled, leaning in to kiss her cheek.
-I know... It's the most beautiful feeling in the world, to feel them like this. –I whispered back. She slowly turned to me and smiled. Her blue eyes were tired and her face was pale. She signed and hid her face on my chest. I noticed she was getting tired. Some more months passed and she was 7 and half months pregnant, almost 8. We decided to let Sophie stay at home with us now that Olivia's pregnancy is ending.
-It's ok... We are almost there, you can do this. –I said, trying to give her strength. With my help, she got up from her bed and we slowly washed, changed and walked downstairs for breakfast. Olivia was the most stubborn woman I've ever met. She wanted to keep working in the business until she couldn't get up and stand by her feet. I tried to convince her to stay at home, but she is too responsible for The Independent.
-What are you going to do today? –I asked, drinking my tea calmly.
-My father told me to see the archives today and give it a deep check. What's too old goes away, what might be important we keep. There is a lot of paper in that room, to be honest. –she said, giggling.
-I can help you with that, if you need. I have nothing that important to do, Ian can handle it. –I answered, winking at her.
-You do everything to help me, don't you? –she said, showing me her tongue. We got up and put our jackets on, getting ready to leave.
-Well, I just don't want you to push yourself too much. –I answered, kissing the point of her nose softly.
-I know, I know... Bye, Sophie! See you later! –she said, waving at her on the doorway. We made our way to the car and I gave a quick look to the backseat. I imagined our kids sitting there in their chairs, playing with Barbies and cars while we rode to the countryside and spend some vacation time. I was day dreaming and Olivia noticed.
-Hey, big man. What's wrong? –she asked, coming closer to me. I looked at her and sighed. My hands rested on her round belly and I felt it warm and protective.
-Nothing, I was just daydreaming about Autumn and James... Again. –I said. She laughed and placed her hand above mine.
-I don't judge you. I dream about them every single minute. But now, we have a lot of paperwork waiting for us in the office. –she said, kissing my lips quickly. She was right. We made ourselves in and ran to the office. Soon as we got there, we moved to our desks. Ian was already there, taking care of the news for the next day. Politics, environment, education, entertainment, car crashes, concerts and festivals, new meetings of parliament... Almost the same things as everyday. That was the truth about working in a newspaper office. We had to be constantly connected to what was happening outside, based on television and other fountains. It was quite fun, I must admit, but a bit stressful as well. I was glad that Olivia was such the great boss that she is and she kept all that team very organized and responsible. She was my pride, as my wife and boss. Ian asked me about her pregnancy and I told him everything was fine. He also asked me if we wanted to do the Christening of the babies and I realized that was something I haven't thought before.
-Well, I don't know. Me and Olivia we didn't marry in a church, exactly, but we are both Catholic. –I said, kind of lost in my thoughts.
-That is no problem at all. You can still do it in a church if you want, it doesn't matter if you married in one. –he explained, while our hands were locked to our keyboard, writing texts for the news.
-You gave me an idea, man. If me and Olivia decides to do their Christening, would you like to be the godfather? –I asked, looking at him. He stared at me, widened and speechless.
-O-oh... You got me completely surprised with that! –he said, mumbling.
-Would you? –I asked again, searching for his answer in his face.
-With all my pleasure, my friend. –he answered. I couldn't help but give him a hug or a kind of, since we were sitting and working. We both laughed and I felt happy. Ian was a big friend for me. He always helped me with Olivia, with the incident with Amanda, on my wedding day... He was always there for me and I had no one who was more close to me than him.
A few hours later, Olivia called me to help her in the archives. She was right, everything was a mess upstairs. We put a lot of things to the garbage, but there were so many interesting things. News from the 90's, things I remembered so well when they happened. The type of letters was different, the paint, even the paper was different. I felt nostalgic with something I've never seen before. Can that be possible.
-Ufff, I'm done here. Richard, let's go home. –she said, just like that. I dropped some papers I had in my hands and I noticed Evans looking at me with a weird look.
-Olivia, are you feeling ok? –I asked her, touching her forehead. There was sweat in her hairline and she was cold in her hands. I noticed that the room was quite closed and there wasn't much oxygen inside, so I asked Evans to help me get her out of there quickly. When we were reaching the balcony, so she could get some air, she collapsed in my arms. I only had time to grab her body before she fell on the ground.
-Olivia?! Please, wake up! –I begged, touching her face gently. Evans helped me and, after, Ian was there too.
-Will she be delivering the babies now? –Ian asked me, while I rested with my knees on the floor, with her body close to my chest. She was deadly pale, cold as stone. I looked to Ian and I started to panic.
-No, she can't! It's too early, they are not ready to be born yet... -that was all I could say. I heard Evans call 911 with his phone, but I couldn't get my thoughts right in my brain. Could she be in labor? Her pregnancy didn't even reach the 8th month! I kept staring at her and trying to wake her up. I was afraid, so, so, so afraid, like I've never been in my life.
TAN TAN TAN!!! Surprise, surprise! I told you I was going to change the course of things a bit! Please don't kill me, you will understand what's happening on the next chapter :)
