"No, not like that." A sigh left Alonzo's mouth. "Just–" his eyes narrowed at my expression, which was clearly frustrated, "follow the instructions on the back of the bag."

As someone who was more than terrible at cooking, I created this situation upon myself. Having a good heart, I told everyone who was part of the staff to have a day off. Except, of course, for the sweet doctor.

"I am fucking trying to read it." I responded, my finger following every letter in case I missed something. "It says it should look brown. Why the hell does it look orange?"

Turning my head to stare at Alonzo who was laid down in the couch to assist me with his words since he wasn't recommended to stand for long periods of time, he closed his eyes as if to gather himself.

"Did you mix it?"

Baffled, an offended scowl took hold of my face.

"Do you share the opinion that perhaps I am an idiot ?" I answered without even blinking.

He muttered something under his breath.

"Look, Estelle, why don't you just leave it there and–"

"I will finish this and that's the end of this conversation." I huffed a breath.

Ignoring what he was saying, I continued mixing it.

Wait, it was actually turning brown? Trying to mix it more, I saw that it was becoming darker and darker.

I smiled. I knew I could do this.

Patting my hands on my bare thighs covering them with flour, I turned once more in his direction.

"So it is brown. Didn't I tell you I could do it?" I said full of pride.

"I never doubted you–" his expression went blank, and he tried to stand up.

"What the hell, do not stand up. He told you not to–"

"Oh my God Estelle, make the fire go out." He shook his head and started coming towards me.

"What fire–"

A boiling sound was heard behind me. I turned immediately and the fire which Alonzo was apparently talking about got wilder.

"Oh, shit, shit, shit. Where is the fire extinguisher?!" I said and started to look under every counter.

Alonzo went to a counter I hadn't yet looked at and took out the fire extinguisher, turning immediately towards the fire, making it go out.

With the fire extinguisher still in hand, turning his head to look at my flabbergasted expression, he laughed.

Like, really laughed.

Softly setting the fire extinguisher beside him, he continued laughing and took me closer by the waist, as he leaned by the kitchen island.

His eyes formed wrinkles on the sides, and I was momentarily taken aback. I had always found him handsome but his usual cold and calculating expression was nowhere to be found. Right now, everything spun upside down.

My eyes widened a little bit, and wandered more than twice across his right and left eye. Then they saw the deep dimple which was formed on his cheek.

Still, almost in a haze, with the pointy finger of my right hand, I touched it. He froze, the grip he had around my waist tightening, his expression falling.
