Carmen ~ Lana Del Ray
_____________
"Sometimes we look up at the full moon and whisper if this is our destiny, or if it's about to change."
______________
Alonzo Pierce
Dimitri, who I hadn't talked much with since Camelli came into my house, approached me when she left.
We were the only ones furthest from our groups.
"So... how's life being married to her?" He asked me, all of us still whispering.
"I don't even know. I want to fucking kill her Dimitri, but also—" I stopped myself before I let my words spiral the same way as my thoughts.
His lip curled in the outer left corner, a smirk forming in his face.
"She's exactly like you." He said. "Actually, that's the first thing I told her when she captured me." he licked his top teeth. "Such a shame."
"Such a shame for what, Dimitri?" I asked, my voice lower, as if I was offering a threat.
He tapped his foot on the floor, his teeth grazing deep in his cheek. His mouth parted as he took a breath, but quickly breathed out. He turned to look at me, cautious.
"Your personalities are alike. Your reputations too. And I believe she's the woman who would keep you on your toes, never bore you out. Imagine you were married to a dumb submissive blonde who doesn't ask questions. That's what mafia men want. But I don't think you'd trade her for anything, would you?"
I tried to imagine a dumb girl, one who would be at home right now in these moments, not asking questions about my job, my life. I tried to imagine someone who would agree to anything I would say. Someone who would never have an opinion of their own. Someone who would only bear my children, never entering my heart.
And then I imagined her. How she fooled me, but even in her dumb character she was alluring. Like a siren pushing me deep into the clear blue sea. Like a melody drawing me in. I felt her secrets, her layers, like the waves who cover the hidden parts of the ocean.
I also felt the digging inside my soul, my flesh, my heart, felt the need to feel her blood. But it wasn't quite as if I wanted to feel her limp without a soul. It was as if I would want to suck into her neck and drink her blood. Her taste. Every layer of her soul and every layer of her whole, even what ran inside her veins.
"Bullshit." I answered, my jaw clenching. "You know I would rather not have a traitor inside my own house."
"What traitor, Alonzo." Dimitri rolled his eyes, hiding a chuckle which would have drawn attention. "Both of you were hiding something from the other. Both of you are even. She her identity, you what you stole from her."
I turned to look at him, one eyebrow up.
"That's not true, Dimitri. I signed a contract. And you know it. And she beat you up, aren't you supposed to be against her?"
A smile pulled from his face.
"No, that's what made me respect her. Because she drew fear from me. Alonzo, she kept herself hidden. You know the shock I felt when I saw her? I thought I would see a big bulky man. I saw her in a red dress, her hair pulled up, a knife in her hand. That's the only time I have felt fear."
"I don't care Dimitri. After this is done, her blood will be spilled."
Looking at the teams, hidden behind meters of distance, trees and bushes, it was something different. I wouldn't think the Russians, Italians and somehow Clandestine's team which was a myth would be in the same space.
