Chapter 31 ~ Asa

I woke up early in the morning, something that wasn't very common for me. I stretched and climbed out of the bed, stepping onto the sunshine spotlight on my wooden floor. My alarm clock read 7:58am. Throwing on an oversized shirt, I walked out of my room and started down the stairs. Expecting the bottom floor to be empty, I started humming something to myself as I walked to the kitchen.

Mum was sitting at the counter, writing something on a bunch of papers.

"Oh hi Asa. Sleep well?"

"Yes, thank you. You?"

"I suppose. Need to pay these bills though." She mumbled, running a hand through her hair.

I bit my lip awkwardly and reached for a mug to make some tea.

"Mum?"

"Yes?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Of course. Just lemme finish this up okay?"

I nodded and poured some hot water with my tea bag and sat down at the table, mixing it slowly, wondering how I could put this into words. Mums sudden snap of her pen jerked me out of my trance and she sat down across from me, warming her hands with her mug.

"So?"

"Well.. Say you had a friend. And you cared about this friend, obviously."

"Mhm."

"But you see, this friend is in trouble. And you want to help your friend, but you're not sure how." I said, looking down at my drink. I took a sip and watched as mum nodded slowly, thinking through her answer.

"I'd say, that I would talk to this friend. I'd make sure to be gentle about the situation, and not be pushy. After all, if I was in the position of my friend, I wouldn't want anyone to be rude. If it's a serious situation chances are my friend is scared to get help and just needs someone who will be thoughtful and caring when coming up with a solution." She finished, smiling at me. I nodded.

"Thanks mum. That really helped."

"No problem. Remember I'm always here to talk."

"Mhm." I placed my now empty cup in the sink and headed towards the stairs.

"Oh and Asa?" I heard mum call. I turned around and looked at her.

"Try not to hurt her." She said quietly, but loud enough for me to hear. I stood there, not sure what to say, as she turned back to her paperwork.

Raising my eyebrows, I turned on my heel and headed up the stairs to call Row.

QOTD: Do you like fall?
AOTD: I love pumpkins, and cinnamon and apples and boots and sweaters and beanies and Thanksgiving and crunchy leaves...but the weather? Well, I wish it was sunnier but other than that fall is bomb!
