Chapter 18 ~ Rowan

Surprise!!! I finished this chapter SUPER quickly!! It's SUPER short but the next chapter is going to be quite long and not posted for maybe a week or two :( So I'm posting this to keep you busy....and anxious :) No QOTD or end note for this chapter because....well...you'll see! Love you all!

"Hey Row." An all too familiar voice cooed into my ear. I slammed my locker in surprise and turned my head to see Asa smiling slyly.

"Ummm hey?" I squeaked. He just called me Row. No one called me Row. Except for Kayla.

"I was wondering....could I walk you home?" He asked, leaning against the lockers nearby. There was a glint in his eye that made me really nervous. I glanced to one side to see a bunch of Asa's friend pushing each other and laughing, shooting looks at Asa. What was going on?

"Yeah, sure. Whatever." I said, sliding my bag onto my shoulder and grabbing Asa's wrist. I pulled him down the hall and for a split second I saw him shoot a thumbs up to the guys.

I was so confused.

"What was THAT all about?" I asked, raising an eyebrow as we started down the sidewalk to my house.

"What? The guys? Oh just being themselves. How you like London?" Asa said, quickly changing the topic. Something was definitely up. But if he didn't want to tell me, fine.

I started into a long speech about how it was absolutely lovely and how it was so much better than Michigan. Asa nodded and smiled through the whole thing.

"So I can see it's good. Looks like you've made friends pretty fast, yeah?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. The girls are fab. Ashley invited me to a sleepover this Friday." I smiled. Asa's face fell.

"This Friday?" He asked. I nodded slowly.

"Why?" I asked.

"No matter. Are you settled here? I mean, many people move and it takes them a long time to get adjusted you know? Friends, activites, guys." He mumbled the last word. Did he just say guys? GUYS? I took a deep breath. He surely didn't say guys.

"Well, yeah I'm not that kind of person. I'm all settled. I've dreamt of London all my life so I feel very at home." I smiled. Asa's eyes sparkled. He stopped walking. I looked at him, slightly confused, and stopped too.

"Great. Because you see Rowan.....there's something I meant to tell you for a while now." He said, taking my hand.

I felt shivers run down my spine as he did so. What was he going to say? I could feel my heart start pounding and my breath quickening.

"Yes?" I asked nervously, almost unable to speak. The world seemed to be closing in on me and I could feel my head pounding. He squeezed my hand, closed his eyes, took a deep breath and smiled at me.

"Rowan? I really, really.."

/Hate you/The voice in my head whispered.

"Like you. I really really like you."
