Chapter 21

Chapter 21 ~ Rowan

The games turned out to be pretty much the usual games played at sleepovers. After about an hour, we collapsed onto Ashley's bed, done with our long round of truth or dare. Suddenly there was a knock on the door and her mom walked in with two boxes. She placed them on the bed along with a large coke bottle. Then she smiled and hurried out.

"Must of been calling someone. She never talks then cuz she needs to think about what she needs to say." Ashley explained, grabbing the boxes and placing them on the rug. We all joined her and waited as she poured coke into a few mugs she had waiting on her desk. I could hear the voices, the thoughts, and they made my head throb, but I took a bite anyway, letting the cheese melt on my tongue. What. Ever.

"Mmmm I love pizza. So, Rowan. How's Asa?" Lucy asked, taking another bite.

"Um...good." I said, not sure how to answer. Just thinking about him made my stomach squirm.

"Have you guys kissed yet?" Cara questioned, raising an eyebrow. I laughed at her face expression.

"No. I mean he's kissed my cheek. Twice. But that's it."

"Do you want him to kiss you?" Jenna asked. Ashley leaned on her desk, listening intently.

"I guess? Gosh guys I feel like I'm being interviewed or something." I said. I knew the answer. All I ever dreamed about was our kiss. IF that would even happen. Probably not. I could dream, but I was sure it would never go further than the date.

"Haha we'll stop Rowan. Don't worry. So what are you wearing?" Ashley asked. I started to explain, and my hand reached out for another piece. I know I shouldn't, I thought. But I did it anyway.
"Ooh nice. Good choice. So movie?" Ashley turned around and grabbed a basket full of CD's and put it on the floor.

After the movie, Ashley decided we'd have a small karaoke round. I said one hundred and two times that I can't sing but the girls forced me too, and I ended up choosing a weird song titled "Bang Bang Bang" by Selena Gomez. It was stupid and I really didn't want to but the girls said it suited my voice. Then it was Ashley's turn.

"I'm gonna sing Good Girls by 5SOS as it's my favorite song at the moment." She said happily. She started playing the song and danced around at the front of the room and right when the chorus started she jumped onto her bed.
"She said to me, forget what you thought, cuz good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught!" She sang, jumping maniacally on her bed. We laughed and joined in with the dancing. At the end of the song we were all singing into our imaginary microphones, moving our feet and laughing. The song came to an end and we all fell to the floor, giggling and trying to catch our breaths.
"So....movie marathon?" Ashely suggested, even though we had just watched one. We all agreed and ran down for some popcorn.

I opened my eyes and looked at the clock on Ashley's desk. 8:47. I glanced at the TV. It was still on, but the screen was black. I sat up and looked around. Ashley and Cara had fallen asleep on the bed, while Lucy, Jenna and I were sprawled on the carpet of sleeping bags on the floor.
Sometime during the third movie I felt my eyelids getting tired and had decided to shut them for a few seconds. The rest of the girls had probably done the same, but it ended with us all falling asleep.
I leaned over and grabbed my phone from my bag.

- Ready for tonight? I'll pick you up at 7:00 ok?
I smiled and felt my cheeks burn.

-Sure thang. Where we going to?
I finally decided to ask as I felt ready to burst with curiosity. I got a reply almost instantly.

-I was thinking...as it was the first place we kinda...talked, Jackies, and a walk around London? It's beautiful at night, as you probably know.

I felt my heart jump.
- Sounds perfect.

He sent me a smiley face and then I looked around. Hmmmm. Maybe it was time for the girls to wake up? I went on youtube and found "Good Girls", turned up the volume and pressed play. All of a sudden Ashley's head jerked up.

"Wh-What?" She blinked and noticed me sitting on the floor.

"Ro-"

"Ava shut UP I want to sleep!" Jenna muttered and Ashley glanced at her, and burst out laughing. A few seconds the rest of the girls woke up and then Jenna sat up, stretching.

"Hey...um sorry bout' that." She said with a sheepish smile and we all laughed.

A smile spread across Ashley's face.
"Who wants pancakes?"

"Okay. Amazing" I looked around my room. It looked perfect. Mom and I had gone bedroom shopping and it had gone really well. All this time we were so busy we forgot to eat, which obviously, was good.

"It does look nice. You can add all the extra touches tomorrow. Now you better get ready!" Mom said, and exited the room. I looked at Kayla and she smiled. It took her a second to snatch the clothes that had been sitting on my desk for the past few days, grabbed my hand, and pulled me to her room.

"Okay. Put them on and I'll try to find some good make up." She said, pushing me lightly on her bed, and then handing me a magazine.

"What's this for?"

"There's first date tips on some page. Read em'." She said, turning around and starting her search for makeup. I put on the clothes in a flash, and opened the magazine.

First date? Don't worry, we've got some tips for you!
~ Make sure you've got fresh breath! Nothing worse than onion taste in your mouth, especially if you're planning a goodnight kiss!
~ Don't wear too much makeup! The more natural the better!
~ Dress for the occasion. If you're going out for some food, or to the movies wear jeans and a nice shirt, not a fancy dress!
~ Order the burger, skip the salad.

I stopped reading.

"Kayla? Um...should I order a burger?" I asked nervously. She turned around.

"Yes. Yes, yes and again yes. No doubt. And no discussion. Trust me, it'll make him happy. Just don't ask. Now sit still, I'll get started." She said, grabbing her chair and bringing it up to me.

"So how was the sleepover?" She asked, starting to apply my makeup.

"Great. A lot of fun." I said, trying not to move.

"That's really good. Did I tell you I made a friend. Ava. She's really cool. Actually, weird enough I think she has a younger sister...Jenna.." I sat up straighter. "DON'T move!" Kayla said through gritted teeth.

"Sorry. Jenna was at the sleepover. She's awesome." I said. Kayla smiled.

"Great. So you excited? Remember, you're spilling all the deats when you get home. I still can't believe this is real." She said, shaking her head. I nodded, unable to believe it myself.
"Rowan. Sparks. Don't move." Kayla said again, and I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing.
Kayla continued to ask me questions and then she sighed in satisfaction. I stood up and went over to her full length mirror. The girl I saw didn't look like...me.
"You look gorgeous Row." Kayla said, clapping her hands together. The outfit looked perfect and the makeup was subtle but looked amazing. I actually looked good.

"Thank you so much Kayla! This is perfect!" I said and ran over to give her a hug. She laughed.

"No problem. Now go brush your teeth!"
I ran out of the room and put a glob of toothpaste on my brush and vigorously started brushing. I spat out the toothpaste and popped a mint into my mouth when it happened.

The doorbell rang.

So the sleepover chapter isn't like I wanted but I still like it.
