Chapter 5 ~ Asa

I watched as a girl, about my age, tripped over her shoelace. I couldn't just let her fall. I reached for her, and wrapped my arms around her waist. Then I pulled her up. She spun around and stared. Her eyes went wide. Her face paled, and she took a deep breath.

She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.

Obviously, I had seen a lot of girls in my lifetime. Lots of them were pretty, but none of them as gorgeous as this one. Her auburn curls framed her face and tumbled down to nearly her mid back. Her eyes were a sparkling, rich brown. She had on simple clothes, but she made them look queen worthy. I couldn't help but stare back at her.

And so we stood, looking into each others eyes in the middle of a busy street in London. Although I didn't go outside yesterday, boy was I glad I went out today. The silence between us was unnerving, so I finally put my hand out and said.

"Hi! I'm-"

"Asa." She said quickly. I must've of looked a bit alarmed, because she let out a nervous giggle. How cute.

"I'm a fan." She said, looking down at her shoes. A small ringlet fell across her face and I could feel my insides melt. "And I'm-" She began.

"Rowan." I said, looking at her silver necklace. Her eyes widened. "Your necklace." I explained, smiling. Her eyes sparkled and she smiled. I reached over and touched the soft silver chain that rested against her skin. She watched my fingers as I did so, holding her breath. Smart move Asa, I scolded myself.

"Are you okay? You look scared." I said, changing the subject.

"Yeah, um, actually I'm um, lost." She said, each word a struggle. She sounded terrified. I didn't know why, but I had the sudden urge to reach out and give her a long hug.

"Do you want help? I know London really well." I said, cautiously. I wanted to spend more time with this girl. She had a certain charm to her. I wanted to know more about her, to tell her how I felt.

Stupid Asa, I thought. Like she also feels this way. Never.

"Yeah actually that would be great." She said gratefully.

"Come here, you can explain what happened." I said, and reached out for her arm. I wrapped my fingers around it. I felt an electric shock pass through my blood as we touched.

I wonder if she felt it too. Probably not.

Then I pulled her over to an empty spot on the sidewalk and asked her to tell me what happened.

She started explaining about how she stopped to tie her shoe and lost her family. I decided to ask her the name of the restaurant they were headed too.

"It started with J. Janie..or something." Her eyebrows pulled together thoughtfully as she tried to remember what the name was. It was adorable.

"Was it Jackie's?" I asked, thinking of the only name I knew. Her eyes lit up. How could one girl's eyes portrait so much emotion?? I didn't know.

"Yes, that's it! Do you think you can help me get there?" She said excitedly. I took a deep breath. Truth to be told, Jackie's was a five minute walk from where we were standing. There was also a long way though, one that would take nearly an hour.

"Could you let your parents know you'll be there in about an hour? It takes a long time from were we are now." I said, quickly licking my lip. She smiled lightly, as color crept into her cheeks. I wonder what I had done....

She reached for her phone and texted her parents. I bit my lip. I hope her parents wouldn't read through my lie. That would be horrible. I just HAD to get to know her better.
