Upon a little misunderstanding I had with one of my readers, I decided it was time to come clean and briefly explain something important about this fanfiction.
Rowan Sparks, the main character, is suffering from the serious mental illness that is anorexia nervosa.
I wrote this book over the course of about two years, and a lot can change in that time, including opinions and certain views you have about the world and life in general.
Rowan's character, beliefs, actions and thoughts were not made through my studying of articles and interviews and books. Rowan's thoughts were none other than mine.
I started recovery from my eating disorder in the summer of 2016. It has not been easy, hell, anything but that, but I stand here today more confident and determined to never let the illness back into my life. When I started writing this book in the summer of 2014, it was all just beginning. I was young, I was dumb, my brain was slowly becoming fogged by intrusive thoughts and I was turning into someone I really wasn't.
As you read through the book, I'd say theres a slight distinction between the way the illness is approached in the first few chapters, and the last. That's because whereas at first I adored the voices that wanted nothing but to destroy me, at the end of writing this novel I had reached a point where I was so incredibly tired of my life, but could only dream of speaking out like Rowan, because I was just so stuck.
I NEVER, EVER predicted this story would reach such a large audience. And in ways, I wish it hadn't. I had never planned to get numerous notifications from people saying they loved it, and to be quite honest, it's nerve-wracking, because that young impressionable and sick girl in 2014 was using this platform as an outlet, combining it with her avid desire to write a fan fiction. And unfortunately, I simply do not have the time to go back and change everything Anorexia-related in the first half of the book to make it more mature, realistic, whatever you want to call it.
However, I will soon be making public an Eating Disorder related poetry type work that I will continue to work on when inspired, so if you're interested in reading that, stay tuned!
Regardless, I hope that you found this worth the read, and if anyone of you is struggling please write me because I truly want nothing but the best for all of you. Thank you, for the last time for dedicating some of your time to reading my work, regardless of all it's negatives.
Stay lifted👌🏻
